Illinois Marine Towing Wheelhouse work on our fleet of Inland Towing Vessels. Extensive orientation and training is provided; all Pilots and Captains must possess a current U.S. Coast Guard license for Master (Pilot) of Towing Vessels that is required for the vessel, route and service.
Qualified candidates must be safety conscious and able to work in a physically demanding environment. Pilots and Captains are required to work onboard for a multi-week hitch, with travel reimbursement provided. The work schedule consists of 21/21 or 14/7. All applicants must have favorable work references and must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.
Primary Job Duties
  • Navigate the vessel and tow safely and efficiently while on watch
  • Supervise crew members and ensure that they are properly trained to perform their job duties safely
  • Ensure that all barges are in seaworthy condition
  • Fill out required logs and reports
  • Apply all safety rules and regulations
  • Comply with all applicable local, state and federal laws/regulations for navigation, environmental and marine transportation instances.
Qualifications
  • Possess a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate the ability to employ all safety practices and manage risk.
  • Have strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard License for Master (Pilot) of Towing Vessels with Inland and Western Rivers Endorsements
  • Possess a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Experience running on the Illinois River preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include climbing ladders and stairs, and repetitive bending, stooping and twisting.
