Central Decatur is a great place to learn and teach! Our district-wide commitment to a positive learning environment is reflected in our RED Way culture (Respectful, Excellent and Dedicated). Our district is an easy fifty minute drive south from Des Moines on I-35. We are proud of our excellent facilities, serving about 750 preschool through 12th graders in three renovated and remodeled buildings. An all weather track, concessions, and turf football field were added in 2016. Students in grades 3-12 have 1:1 laptops, and Pk-2 have 1:1 classroom laptops.
Staff commitment is evidenced in the many years of devotion to our district. A third of staff have been with the district for more than fifteen years. Low staff turnover creates our culture of family based on a dedication to the larger school community. Annually 98% or more students graduate. The district is committed to small class sizes, averaging 19 students per class at the elementary and 22 in the middle/high school. Our district is devoted to providing our students every possible opportunity, through comprehensive preschool, advanced career and technical education pathways, athletics and activities, and technology access.
