The Village of Buffalo Grove and its community development department are seeking a full-time Plan Reviewer/ Building Inspector.The Village of Buffalo Grove is located thirty-three miles northwest of downtown Chicago and twenty miles north of O’Hare International Airport. Neighboring communities include Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, and Wheeling. Buffalo Grove has been recognized as one of the safest communities in the United States, the most family-friendly community in Illinois, one of the best Chicago suburbs for young professionals and one of the Best Places to Live.Under the general supervision of the Building Services Manager, the Plan Reviewer/Building Inspector will review plans, specifications, and other submitted material for compliance with building codes, policies, and jurisdiction requirements for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, both for new construction and renovation to existing buildings. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the inspection of a variety of building and structural installations, modifications, and repairs to determine whether plans comply with legal requirements.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This position is responsible for working collaboratively with Village staff, contractors, residents, and businesses in all areas of building and inspections to review specific building applications.Examines plans and other permit documents to assure compliance with applicable technical codes.Provides applicant deficiencies/approvals and review revisions of submitted plans and other permit documents.As part of the permit process, inspects new construction and improvements for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.Continuously updates and maintains skills and knowledge regarding changing building technology and ICC codes.Maintains accurate records of plan review and inspection results within the Village’s permit software system and works collaboratively with department staff.Assists with answering inquiries over the phone, in-person, or via email regarding general code information as well as specific project information.Works closely with other department personnel and/or outside contractorsAssists with other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering, planning, architecture, construction management, or construction technology, and three (3) years of related work experience, preferably in a government setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver's license. ICC Residential Building and ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification. Must also have or obtain a Residential Plans Examiner Certification through the International Code Council (ICC).

The Village of Buffalo Grove offers a competitive salary starting at $88,304.32 +/- DOQ and a comprehensive benefit package including health, dental, and vision, enrollment in IMRF as well as other voluntary opportunities for retirement.
