PHOENIX LITHOGRAPHING CORPORATION, a commercial printing and direct mail company, is seeking an experienced platemaker/QC for second shift at its northeast Philadelphia facility. PLATEMAKER – Full-Time, 2nd shift

• Operate CTP equipment to expose offset plates from digital files to produce printing plates. Review images produced on plate for defects or errors that will manifest during the printing process. Maintain production documentation. Replenish chemical solutions in automatic plate processors and perform routine light maintenance on equipment.

• Responsibilities:
• Maintain a file system.
• Read press schedule, job ticket, and all other furnished specifications in detail to determine order in which jobs are plated and what type plate is used, questions all discrepancies or oddities in instructions.
• If the job is an exact repeat, compare plates to sample to confirm plate codes are correct and correct plates are being sent to press.
• Verify all job information to ensure that correct plates are being used; checks plates for quality and repairs any flaws.
• Complete all documentation and logs. Keep supervisor informed of any problems, i.e. supplies, equipment, etc.
• Responsible for filing plates from press and job envelopes after plates are complete on a daily basis. Receive and store platemaking materials. Responsible for the overall cleanliness and housekeeping of the work area.
• Clean processor and inspect plates according to standard procedure.
• Handle plates with care.
• Serve as liaison between prepress and the pressroom.
• Adhere to and promote all safety policies and procedures including but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies.
• Perform other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned. It is the responsibility of all employees to follow the requirements of their documented processes as defined in the Quality Manual.

Experience/Knowledge:

• MINIMUM 5 years experience in offset plat manufacturing utilizing a CTP system.
• Experience in quality control for offset printing and prepress.
• Desktop experience with printing layouts.
• Experience with the Fuji XMF System is a plus.

• Skill in a variety of mechanical procedures to perform various tasks to set up, make adjustments, and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment.

Physical Demands

• Continuous standing/walking - 8 hrs or more.
• Occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching.
• Occasional lifting and pushing/pulling - 50 lbs. or less.
• Occasional repetitive motion with both hands.
• Cannot be colorblind.

Salary range:
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
