REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Materials & Logistics
SUPERVISES: Logistics Lead, Logistics Associates
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage, train and motivate logistics personnel to build a high-performance, high-morale team. Key logistics leader and point-of-contact with senior and mid-level Post Delivery production, supply chain and project management customers.
  • Manage, set up and operation of small warehouse supporting Austal Post-Delivery production efforts. Key leader in project management of facility setup, warehouse layout and material movement.
  • Coordinate with Logistics Support team, Shipping & Receiving team, and Traffic Lead to ensure timely and accurate receipt and shipment of material to/from warehouse. Execute transfer of material to/from the ship and/or Execution Yard as directed by the Homeport Manager or Project Lead.
  • Pro-actively manage timely, efficient and accurate Receiving, Stores, Warehousing, Material Handling and Inbound Logistics of purchased material. Responsible for accurate receiving, put away and picking of material. Accountable for inventory accuracy and control.
  • Ensure safe and efficient material handling operations. Ensure forklift and other material handling equipment are operated in safe, efficient manner. Train personnel and enforce standards to ensure safety and prevent damage to material in storage and transport.
  • Manage tool and consumable supply issue via cribs, vending machines, Kanban and other material delivery processes.
  • Ensure safe over-the-road trucking operations and compliance with DOT regulations for safety, time-in-service, vehicle maintenance, and driver qualification records.
  • Ensure timely and accurate receipt and inspection of all incoming material deliveries. Promptly report and document discrepancies or freight carrier damage and support Traffic Lead in successful resolution of freight claims.
  • Take ownership of warehouse inventory accuracy. Conduct regular inventory cycle counts, under the direction of Logistics Support Manager. Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, document and communicate findings, and perform inventory adjustments in IFS. Analyze results of discrepancy investigations to determine root-cause and support accuracy improvement efforts to achieve or exceed standards.
  • Implement logistics and warehouse technology and process enhancements, including MRP, bar coding, wireless scanning. Develop stock location and order picking strategies to optimize work flow and space utilization.
  • Operate forklift and other material handling equipment to safely load/unload and store material. Maintain Austal certification. Operate Austal company vehicle as required and maintain certification.
  • Ensure all 5S and house-keeping standards are maintained and adhered to by conducting regular 5S inspections and training/reinforcing of standards.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
  • Strong personal leadership skills. Able to effectively communicate, train and motivate a diverse team to meet high performance standards. Effective at verbal and written communications with mid-senior level management and internal/external customers.
  • Able to work autonomously without direct on-site supervision.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Inventory Management, Warehouse, or Logistics related field required. Experience in receiving, shipping operations desired.
  • Bachelors’ degree in Logistics-related field strongly preferred. May substitute equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient with material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.). Must be able to gain/maintain Austal certification.
  • Safe driving record. Must be able to maintain Austal company vehicle certification. Current Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License strongly preferred.
  • Experience with US Navy and government property management standards desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Proficiency in IFS or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with materials and equipment used in ship construction strongly preferred.
  • Position may require travel to support various Post Delivery availabilities.
  • Willingness to work irregular and sometimes lengthy work schedule.

  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).
  • Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts.
  • Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
  • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
  • Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time (33-66% of the day).
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.
  • Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.
