The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of small molecule HIV Nef inhibitors and seeking the applications of the novel compounds in cocaine-induced neuroinflammation.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The postdoctoral fellow will work under the direction and supervision of Dr. Amol Kulkarni on a project focused on small molecule inhibitors of the NLRP3 inflammasome.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • A listing of the principal accountabilities of the postdoctoral fellow are given below:
  • The postdoctoral fellow will primarily be involved in planning and execution of chemical synthesis and characterization of novel NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitors with applications in HAND. The postdoctoral fellow may be assigned additional tasks in synthetic medicinal chemistry depending on the overall direction of the project. The postdoctoral fellow will supervise professional, graduate, undergraduate, and high school students in Dr. Kulkarni’s group. The postdoctoral fellow will assist Dr. Kulkarni in writing manuscripts and preparation of scientific presentations. The postdoctoral fellow will present his research at scientific meetings/conferences as approved by Dr. Kulkarni. The postdoctoral fellow will ensure that all safety protocols are followed in the laboratory. The postdoctoral fellow will assist in the preparation of the laboratory for safety inspections. From time to time the need to complete other tasks, not listed above, will arise and the postdoctoral fellow is expected to undertake these tasks as well.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Synthetic medicinal chemistry, spectroscopy, and chromatography
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A doctoral degree in organic or medicinal chemistry is required. Prior experience as a postdoctoral fellow is preferred.
