The University at Buffalo, department of Sociology is seeking applications for a 2-year full-time Postdoctoral Associate funded by an NIA R01 grant on “The Demography of Chronic Pain: A Population Approach to Pain Trends, Pain Disparities, and Pain‐Related Disability and Death” (R01AG065351). The successful candidate will work under the direction of project heads Drs. Hanna Grol-Prokopczyk (University at Buffalo), Anna Zajacova (Western University, Canada), and Zachary Zimmer ( Global Aging and Community Initiative at Mount Saint Vincent University, Canada).
The project utilizes large-scale, national data from the U.S., Canada, and other countries to analyze population-level pain trends; social disparities in pain; association between pain, disability, and mortality; “upstream” factors shaping pain outcomes; and related topics. In the coming period we are particularly interested in advancing understanding of the links between pain and mortality, and between social policies and pain, both in the U.S. and internationally.
We are interested in recent or soon-to-be doctoral graduates with very strong quantitative skills looking to enhance their scholarship through publication in this research area. The successful candidate should be able to work together with an international research team, while also being able to work independently and creatively. Applicants can be from any discipline but must be familiar with demographic concepts, literature, and techniques. Proficiency in English is required.
The successful candidate will be based out of the Department of Sociology – University at Buffalo. In-person residence is welcome but not required. The salary range for this position is $50-$54,000 USD/year. Preferred starting date is July 1, 2023. The position runs for one year with a second-year renewal upon adequate progress.
