PreK-3 Coordinator Position

Position:

The Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applicants for a 12-month Pre-Kindergarten – 3rd Grade Coordinator for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program. The position will begin January 2023.

The CFS department supports and interdisciplinary perspective on early education and seeks candidates whose background and experience in early childhood education and program coordination will strengthen the ECE program generally, with a specific focus on the PreK-3 concentration. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in a variety of activities that facilitate the progression of students in the ECE PreK-3 concentration. Specific activities are designated below, with the majority of effort devoted to Leadership and Supervision (40%), Student Advising (40%), Student Recruitment, Planning, and Outreach (15%), and Department, College, and Other responsibilities (5%).


Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned Masters degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Early Intervention, Child Development, or a closely related field. Candidates must also have excellent communication skills and knowledge of best practices in the ECE field. Candidates should have the ability to develop relationships with students, mentoring teachers, and other stake holders, exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality, the ability to understand and interpret policy, have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, have strong problem-solving abilities, the ability to work well both independently and with a team, and knowledge of large platform academic systems as well as Microsoft Office software. Candidates should also demonstrate active commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through coordination, service, and outreach. Knowledge and understanding of licensure programs, partnerships with schools, and trends in the field of ECE are also desired.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferences will be given to candidates who have a knowledge of UTK policies and procedures related to advising undergraduate students and of Tennessee State Framework for Evaluation and Professional growth, knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Adobe Cloud, and have the ability to engage in high touch advising to facilitate the progression of students in the PreK-3 program. Knowledge of Integrated Early Childhood Special Education Standards/Early Intervention and knowledge of Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation process are also desired.

Program:

The Department of Child and Family Studies is an interdisciplinary department in the CAEP-Approved College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS). The CFS department emphasizes contextual approaches to research and practice with the intention of creating knowledge and informing practice related to the well-being of children, youth, and families. The CFS department is home to the Early Learning Center for Research and Practice (ELC), an innovative, cross-culturally inspired, and inclusive laboratory school. The ELC is an exceptionally high-quality learning environment for children, pre-service and in-service teachers, and researchers.
