Description:

The product stewardship regulatory scenario is rapidly changing globally with more challenging intensive requirements being defined that takes a depth and breadth of expertise to define impacts and respond quickly to the new requirements. Additionally, advancing the global Product Stewardship Team's competencies and skills is a necessity to enable Braskem's ambition to lead sustainable innovation in chemicals and plastics. This Global Product Stewardship Specialist position is a highly skilled senior level position dedicated to navigating the global product stewardship and regulatory challenges to meet these needs. This role will need to respond to a breadth of various emerging Product Stewardship needs and provide subject matter expertise to the regional Product Stewardship teams, Innovation and Technology and Business teams. Nearer-term needs will focus on the management of operational and strategic product stewardship and regulatory aspects of global chemical management and hazardous communication regulatory requirements. This role supports the regional Product Stewardship teams and interfaces heavily with Legal, Commercial, Procurement, Innovation and Technology and Industrial areas.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Immediate responsibilities to lead initiatives to improve Braskem's Chemical Management (US TSCA, REACH and REACH-like legislations, etc.) and/or Hazardous Communication (CLP) needs
  • Manage chemical registration/notification agency submissions
  • Lead & conduct special in-depth highly complex and ambiguous product stewardship projects
  • Conduct Product Stewardship Reviews and collaborate with key stakeholders to develop action plans to ensure compliance and mitigate risks
  • Propose & support the development of global product stewardship strategies and positions in alignment with business needs
  • Develop subject matter expertise to overcome gaps needed to support the business.
  • Actively participate in industry forums to advocate and influence legislation relevant to our businesses
  • Develop internal and external network of experts, testing labs, etc., to enable resolution of issues more expediently
  • Develop and implement efficient and simplified governance practices, procedures, processes and systems, trainings, and audit protocols to enable regulatory compliance and overall team efficiency
  • Proactively monitor new & changing regulations, define global business impacts and develop/align with businesses on mitigation plans
  • Collaborate extensively and support all regional Product Stewardship teams (US, Brazil and Europe)
  • Promote and support the development of a Product Stewardship culture within Braskem and externally

Requirements:

  • Personal commitment to Safety, Ethics, Compliance and DE&I
  • Good knowledge of important global registration requirements and processes (e.g., REACH, Asia-Pacific, Americas)
  • Experience with conducting high quality risk assessments
  • Good understanding of GHS, hazardous classification of chemicals and labeling
  • Excellent critical thinking skills: able to troubleshoot and problem-solve
  • Able to independently seek-out knowledge and resources to respond to product stewardship needs
  • Extremely organized, disciplined, detail-oriented and action-oriented
  • Good collaboration skills and flexibility required for working with colleagues in over 7 remote office environments globally
  • Ability to analyze and summarize complex data and information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with leading and working on teams
  • Strong project management skills
  • Languages: English (advanced) required; Portuguese (beneficial)

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, ecotoxicology, toxicology or relevant scientific discipline. PhD or MSc preferred.
  • Toxicological knowledge and experience highly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in product safety/product stewardship/regulatory affairs area
  • Experience with Chemical Management and Hazardous Communication legislations preferred
  • Experience with petrochemicals and polyolefins beneficial
  • Strong computer and data management skills required; Proficient in general MS Office 365 applications
