The Skill Up: Career, Technical and Workforce Training, and Employment Services Initiative (SkillUp) is a program developed by the Department of Youth Services (DYS) and managed by Commonwealth Corporation to deliver high-quality career development, technical training and workforce programming and services that are aligned with local labor market needs within or across the five DYS geographic regions in Massachusetts. The initiative aims to reduce recidivism for DYS youth through the provision of high-quality services leading to employment with benefits at family-sustaining wages. Additionally, the initiative seeks to reduce employment barriers and provide career, technical, and workforce training that improves opportunities and reduces access and engagement barriers for youth as they transition back to the community from their residential treatment programs. A key component of this effort is the ability to increase career, technical and workforce training and employment opportunities for the DYS youth program: Among the programs administered by Commonwealth Corporation is the DYS Initiative. In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services (DYS), CommCorp manages high-quality employability and arts programming and services to youth committed to the juvenile justice system across the state of Massachusetts. The mission of the DYS Initiative is to provide youth with access and opportunity to a continuum of options and opportunities that will give them the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to build a better future.

Position Description: The primary responsibility of the Program Coordinator is to collaborate with CommCorp Sr. Program Manager for Residential Work Programs to support the implementation of programming. Support will be leveraged through this position to maximize youth outcomes across various programs and projects with a primary focus on the Exclusive Tees screen printing social enterprise program, residential work programs, and youth employment payroll.

The Program Coordinator, DYS Initiative will:

Order Management and Business Operations for the Exclusive Tees Social Enterprise

  • Serve as the main point of contact for all customer orders and inquiries, providing high-quality customer service
  • Manage customer orders, including pricing, merchandise, invoicing, and payments, utilizing QuickBooks, order management software, and point-of-sale programs
  • Provide basic graphic design needs for customer orders and shop operations
  • Provide high-level effective communication among the entire production team
  • Oversee shop supply ordering needs
  • Market the program to prospective customers

Manage Youth Payroll Oversight

  • Serve as the main point of contact for all youth payroll and banking needs, providing standard operating procedures
  • Collaborate with residential and community staff to collect youth onboarding and bi-weekly youth timesheets, ensuring all details are correct and submitted in full
  • Compile and submit payroll bi-weekly, tracking all information in QuickBooks or other databases as required for financial and program reporting
  • Ensure well-documented delivery of pay stubs and checks to appropriate parties
  • Aid in the setup of bank accounts for youth where needed, communicating, and coordinating with bank partners and residential staff
  • Ensure all program components are implemented with fidelity
  • Statewide travel to various programs, meetings, and events on a regular basis
  • Supporting other DYS initiatives where needed

  • Familiarity with Google, Outlook, and other standard office computer applications
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks, POS (Square, Stripe), CRM (Salesforce), and Adobe Illustrator a plus

Education: B.A. / B.S. degree preferred, or A.A. degree with additional relevant work experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with or for youth placed at risk and as a workforce development professional is required.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills including proficiency in standard office computer applications are required.
  • This position will be located in the DYS Northeast region and will include traveling and working in various locations across the state.
  • Must be willing to work in DYS facilities and settings and have a valid Massachusetts drivers license and car are required.
  • The final candidate will be required to submit to a comprehensive background check, and complete Basic Training coursework administered and facilitated by DYS in Central, MA.

Commonwealth Corporation does not contribute to Social Security; however, in lieu of such contribution Commonwealth Corporation will contribute on a biweekly basis the equivalent of 13.2% of your salary to a 401(a) employee retirement plan. This plan is administered by Nationwide where you are vested 100% on day 1 of hire ( No waiting period).
