Summary

Come help drive business transformation at National Life as a part of our Project Management Office, where you will lead and deliver projects for our most critical strategic initiatives across National Life’s business and IT organizations. We are seeking a seasoned PM professional (either Project Manager or Sr Project Manager) who has experience in PMO and EPMO environments and can help National Life mature its execution processes while also engaging deeply with project teams to lead transformational systems and business process modernization efforts.

Project Managers and Sr Project Managers at National Life are responsible for leading teams to deliver projects of varying complexity that span across one or more departments. The PMO focuses on delivering business value by carefully managing National Life’s resources, project schedules and financials with a focus on adherence to quality and control guidelines throughout the full systems development life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of strategic, continuous improvement, and business and IT transformation projects to ensure timely and effective execution.
  • Collaborate with project team to identify and manage all dependencies between IT and functional areas involved in the project.
  • Monitor performance and recommends schedule changes, cost or resource adjustments.
  • Establish and provide timely updates to the management team for each project for escalating issues, reporting and managing risks, issues and status reporting.
  • Management of project change requests that impact scope, schedule, budget.
  • Ensure that the business and IT project resources are following established processes as well as participate in strengthening and maturing internal tools, artifacts and other governance aspects.
  • Work with multiple development methodologies such as waterfall, iterative and agile (scrum, kanban) to support project teams.
  • Develop an understanding of the business needs of a project.
  • Establish strong working relationships with executive sponsors, business owners and stakeholders across the organization to manage expectations and project delivery as well as interact with other projects/programs to make decisions that are in the best interest of the organization.
  • Execute on all core project management competencies to lead or coordinate project planning, including resource, staff, supply and subcontract management, progress reporting, troubleshooting and team management.
  • Have the confidence and competency to turn around small and some medium-sized, troubled projects and contribute toward continuous improvement in project management principles to improve project delivery.
  • Support/assist teams to embrace NLG’s learning organization culture to mature teams into highly productive, self-sufficient project teams capable of delivering work that crosses various systems and business processes.
  • Directly or indirectly manage/mentor team members and colleagues in techniques such as leadership, methodology, tools, and people and communication skills.
  • Influence key partners in executing change management methodology.
  • Consistently capture and integrate the voice of the customer (VOC) and voice of the team (VOT) feedback.
  • Regularly assess risks and opportunities; understand best practices, drive for process improvements, and find new ways of operating, with a focus on simplification.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in financial services desired (preferably life insurance and annuity)
  • At least 5 years of experience managing cross-functional projects in a matrixed environment
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or working towards desired
  • LOMA ALMI or FLMI a plus
  • Skilled in multiple project management methodologies desired (e.g. agile/scrum, waterfall)
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently as well as being a team player
  • Must has strong EQ/SQ and the ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex subject matter to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong organizational skills a must
  • Results oriented, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to interact and communicate with C-Level executives and senior leadership
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Project and the MSOffice Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint); experience with tools like Jira/Confluence a plus
  • Must be able to pass a background check

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
