OVERVIEW:
The Promotions Director is a key member of the Urban One team, working directly with
Marketing, on strategic/creative development and management of revenue-generating marketing
solutions and partnerships for existing and prospective clients with the Sales, Promotions and
Digital departments. This position will work with Programming to develop winning promotional
campaigns to drive ratings.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To develop, implement and monitor effective and relevant Promotions plans on an ongoing basis with close attention to client, listener, and internal staff satisfaction
- To keep an up-to-date annual plan of Promotion Activity with all major projects released to the Local and National Representatives a minimum of two months prior to each start date
- To proactively respond to client promotional requests
- To develop and maintain cross promotional pool of clients as a tool for programming promotions
- To build revenue opportunities to capitalize on promotional services and pro-actively plan new revenue from emerging technologies
- To ensure progress reports and final wrap-up reports for the clients are prepared within 14 days of the end of all "umbrella promotions" and where requested by the client or agency
- To act as a controlled resource in terms of coordinating client support of Station Promotion initiatives
Interdepartmental Liaison
- To ensure effective interdepartmental communication as it applies to the ongoing execution of this function’s main responsibilities at all times
- To assist the Sales and Programming Departments in capitalizing on manufacturer funded business through identifying leads and assisting Account Executives in developing advertising and promotion ideas for these prospects
- To ensure advertising clients and each radio station receive effective options for brand extension that result in the growth of revenue and ratings
- To expand the event options that will both extend the station brands and generate client sponsorship opportunities
Administration
- To schedule full time and part time Promotion staff as needed
- To submit relevant payroll (weekly) and purchase documentation (as ordered) to accounting
- To approve and monitor sick leave and vacation schedule on an ongoing basis
- To document all relevant information as it applies to Promotions on an ongoing basis
- To set goals for Promotions with the Retail and General Sales Manager and to oversee production costs when applicable
- To develop, implement and monitor all relevant department policies & procedures on an ongoing basis
- To ensure the legal ramifications of Promotion Activity is addressed to the satisfaction of the company and the principle contact with participating sponsors
- To attend Management, Sales, Promotions, and Announcers meetings as needed
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Present a positive and professional attitude and presence at all station events
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, and in particular the ability to
- Strong attention to detail and solid organizational and project management skills
- Other duties may be assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age. One year certificate from college or technical school. Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Present a positive attitude at events. Other duties may be assigned.
