Prototype Specialist Job at Toyota Boshoku America (TBA)

Toyota Boshoku America (TBA) Novi, MI

I. General Summary:
Input new model bill of materials process through Prototype ERP system. Ensure the implementation of engineering document changes within the ERP system for all pre-production builds. Attend builds to extract open issues related to the bill of materials. Plan program activity and report status to the program team. Deliver procurement requirements to the program team.
II. Essential Job Functions:
A. Issue and track supplier orders for customer requirements. Negotiate supplier delivery timing, track supplier purchase orders, and provide supplier timing to management for prototype build scheduling.
B. Create and release prototype bill of materials and enter all parts needed into item master.
C. Analyze drawings, SMS structure (e.g., engineering parts list), communication memos, and color instructions to create New Model Bill of Materials.
D. Interpret engineering documentation to identify change points that need to be implemented into Bill of Material and communicate changes to Prototype team.
E. Work with Engineering department to resolve open issues extracted from SMS and drawing discrepancies.
F. Identify and track open program issues, and work with relevant internal departments on issue resolution.
G. Develop and present program documentation including prototype detail plan and material matrixes.
H. Analyze and arrange internal prototype make vs. buy for new model programs for all commodities.
I. Attend program meetings, submit procurement activity schedules, facilitate communication between internal departments, and work with prototype team members to ensure customer deliveries are met.
J. Create weld schedules along with any supplier stagger schedule that is needed for each milestone.
III. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience:
  • Entry to four (4) years of experience in production, prototype procurement, and/or manufacturing processes, preferably automotive interiors.

Personal/Technical Skills:
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, commissions, proportions, margins and mark-up.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of the manufacturing processes relating to plastics, metals, foam, and textiles.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand engineering documents such as automotive drawings (component, assembly, and equipment), technical standards, and Engineering Change Instructions (ECI).
  • Able to work in a fast paced, multicultural work environment.
  • Ability to function both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work effectively within time constraints and deadlines, and handle stressful situations.
  • Analytical skills, problem solving skills, and good judgment.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels inside and outside of the organization.
  • Must be self-motivated, goal oriented, quality-driven, and capable of working with minimum supervision.
  • Must demonstrate commitment, entrepreneurship, innovation, perseverance, professionalism, self-discipline, and teamwork skills.
Language Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Japanese, German, Portuguese, and/or Spanish preferred.
Computer/Software:
  • Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Lotus Notes/Outlook, Internet, etc.).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel including the ability to create reports and charts, plus mathematical, logical, and reference formulas in Excel including manipulating large amounts of data.
  • Previous experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and MRP System experience (e.g., Oracle) preferred.

V. Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time and is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
