The Behavioral Wellness Center @ Girard is a behavioral health facility that serves a diverse patient population and offers a comprehensive continuum of care in mental health and addictive disease, including detoxification, MAT, residential care, outpatient and psychiatric services.

SUMMARY


The Psychologist is a member of an interdisciplinary health team providing care for patients with mental health disorders. Will perform psychotherapy, psychological assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and assist in coordinating the psychology internships and other administrative duties. Will also be responsible for creating intervention programs and determining the best treatment methods for assigned clients. Completes all phases of work in a professional in courteous manner and interacts with staff, physicians, and other departments in a collegial manner in order to meet departmental and institutional needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be currently licensed by the State of Pennsylvania Board of Psychological Examiners for professional practice of psychology and a graduate from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor's degree, supplemented by either a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology (Ph.D.) or a Doctor of Psychology ( Psy.D.) from an accredited College or University, both with completion of a one year supervised clinical internship; or a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) from an accredited College or University with a major course of study in psychology which shall have included a minimum of six semester hours of credit in each of the following areas: (1) objective and projective testing, (2) psychotherapeutic techniques and counseling; (3) personality development and learning theory; (4) human motivation and psychopathology; and (5) research design and statistical analysis, supplemented by completion of the one year supervised clinical internship. Current certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) a plus.

Minimum of 1 year of working experience, subsequent to the receipt of the Doctorate degree and in addition to the clinical internship in the field of clinical psychology in a community mental health center, mental hospital, school for the intellectually disabled, or penal, correctional, or juvenile institution or other setting involving the use of psychodiagnostic, psychotherapy, projective techniques, and other clinical methods is strongly preferred.

Special Note: One year of residency (advanced training beyond internship) is considered equivalent to one year of experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Must possess knowledge of normal, healthy psychological development and adaptation throughout the life span; knowledge of patterns of deviant adaptation and psychopathology; knowledge of the social, cultural, genetic and familial factors contributing to inadequate adjustment; knowledge of psychological assessment techniques.

Must possess skills required to be able to lead with a high degree of emotional intelligence and ethics. Excellent mentoring, interpersonal communication, organizational and computer skills required.

Must have the ability to exercise good judgment in the analysis and treatment of individual cases as well as in the administration of psychological testing programs; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with other health professionals such as psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health workers and creative arts therapists; ability to present ideas and analyses effectively both orally and in writing.
