DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Develop professional working relationships with Farm Bureau personnel (AFBF & other states), key congressional staffers, government agency personnel, industry associates, and others to further GFB policy positions.
  • Should have detailed knowledge of political & legislative processes and the ability to research & comprehend technical information, regulations, & legislation.
  • Develop informative reports, presentations, policy briefs, and member communications.
  • Aide in the development of policy with a recognition of current political climate.
  • Understand policy needs and coordinate solutions to address those needs.
  • Implement policy by promoting efforts within our membership and by working cooperatively through other GFB departments and other agricultural associations to achieve policy goals.
  • Responsible for scheduling and organizing member events and trips that assist with advocacy efforts.
  • Schedule events, attend meetings, positively represent the organization as directed by the Public Policy Director and the GFB President.
  • While the purpose of the position is to be a recognized specialist in national affairs, the NAC will also be called upon to assist with state affairs as needed.
  • Should have a proven record of responsibility, good attendance, and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Must be proficient in written & spoken English, and must have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form with limited supervision.
  • Excellent telephone, public relations and oral/written communication skills are required.
  • Job requirements shall include other duties as assigned.

      • Work with others while remaining within our policy
      • Build coalitions
      • Work with elected officials and staff to implement our goals
    • Initiative & Judgment- an ability to:
      • Judge situations and initiate action when warranted
      • Handle problems responsibly
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS- WRITTEN- ability to write effectively:
    • Letters & reports of meetings
    • Articles for publication to inform members of important issues
    • Research reports and briefs
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS- VERBAL- ability to lead meetings and make presentations to:
    • Members & county Farm Bureaus
    • Committees, boards, associations, partners, and media as warranted
    • Elected officials as needed

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS

  • Can carry out duties with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Attend required meetings and conduct oneself in a way that will further the goals of Georgia Farm Bureau.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
  • Must possess basic skills with personal computer, experience with Windows, word processing, PowerPoint, and internet.
  • Will be expected to attend frequent meetings at night, often overnight, sometimes for a week at a time.
  • Must maintain a valid Georgia Drivers’ License at all times and be able to receive other licenses or credentials as required for this job.
  • Must be able to fly to distant locations for meetings and lobbying efforts.
  • Generally, represent the organization in a positive way.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 plus years of governmental affairs or public policy experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in agriculture, political science, or related field. Farm or agri-business experience is helpful.
  • Familiarity with Farm Bureau helpful.
  • A proven record of responsibility, good attendance, ability to handle confidential material.
  • The proven ability to relate to and work with various people in a professional manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

NONE

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The employee must sit for long periods of time, drive long distances in day or night conditions, negotiate stairs, stand for extended periods, and walk long distances carrying loads up to 20 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to talk and hear and vision is required for close and distant work.
