We have an exciting opportunity to join our team, as the R&D Manager, Industrial Solutions. The R&D Manager reports to the R&D Director and is responsible to provide leadership for technical Specialty grades throughout the product development cycle (Ideation, Concept, Development, Validation and Launch) of the product platform(s) assigned to their team.

The responsibility includes leading their respective team toward the R&D metrics and personal objectives which support the Industrial Solutions business and Mativ organization goals. This role works closely with Marketing and Sales in creating value for our customers as a key technical expert and innovation leader.

The R&D manager will lead a team of junior scientists, senior scientists, and lab technician(s). The role is expected to work closely across the Industrials business units and Mativ R&D teams to generate synergies and best practices.

Responsibilities:

• Generate new product development (NPD) products under Horizon 1,2 & 3 levels
• Generate new IP/patents and/or trade secrets
• Support Sales & Marketing Teams to identify new product opportunities, focusing on strong margin and volume growth
• Management of specific product platform(s) which includes development of new products, improvement of existing products, cost savings opportunities together with foresight of maintaining alternative raw materials
• Oversees the development of materials, products, processes and the standardization of technical specification development. This includes defining and implementing physical property testing to ensure reproducibility and repeatability for long term compliance.
• Provide global technical support, internally and externally. Serve as a Mativ SME in area of expertise
• Provide direction and feedback on new product technologies, applications and customer opportunities to the Industrial Solutions business
• Manage and direct staff, which includes employee recruitment and development
• Assist with the development and training of Sales and Marketing
• Identify initiatives focusing on new technologies and materials
• Participate in the development of strategies around target market segments, product development, and competitive analysis
• Responsible for their own new product development projects, together with associated lab, production asset and customer trial work
• Perform professional technical presentations to customers and industry groups
• Represent the company at trade shows and associations meetings
• Comply with company policies
• All other duties as assigned

Required EDUCATION/Experience:

Master’s/Ph.D. degree a plus or BS degree with relevant years of experience in Paper Science, Specialty Papers, Chemistry, Chemical Eng. or applicable technical field

Required Skills/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven experience in building relationships at all levels of the business, both internally and externally
• Technical knowledge of paper making, saturation and coating/formulating
• Highly proficient communicator adept at identifying solutions and problem solving
• Strong presentation, management and leadership skills
• Experience within paper and chemical industry and strong analytical skills
• Ability to travel globally as needed
• Program management capabilities, ideally trained or experience in professional project management
• MS Office, MiniTab
