JOB TITLE: Railroad Office and Billing Manager (Part-Time)

JOB LOCATION: East Chicago, Indiana (Not Eligible for Telecommute)

This job entails performing general office management functions, railroad specific office management functions, and supply chain office and logistics office management functions in addition to other duties assigned as a small business operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enter waybills to ensure proper entry, route, revenue capture, and processing

  • Conduct audits of waybills to ensure accurate capture of revenue and expenses associated with the maneuvers of the operations of the railroad; collaborate with several management teams to minimize car-hire expenses
  • Identify and research cars that are sitting idle on railroad property to ensure revenue is captured and car-hire expenses are reduced
  • Research incomplete waybills and ensure they are properly updated and completed so proper revenue can be applied
  • Be responsible for accurate and timely billing of railroad receivables, including freight, nonfreight, accessorial, and payable accruals.
  • Be responsible for accurate and timely billing, resolution, and collection of all Class 1 partner invoices
  • Be responsible for accurate and timely billing and resolution of accessorial customer charges
  • Prepare and process various railroad charges according to published tariffs and contracts on an as needed basis
  • Revise and re-publish tariffs
  • Be responsible for researching and resolving discrepancies/disputes on all TMS-generated invoices
  • Process duplicates, overpayment, and short pays associated with invoices; validate payment usage and research unidentified cash receipts
  • Communicate with customers, marketing, operations, and other departments as needed
  • Assist collection specialists with outstanding customer balances and accounts, which can include calling or e-mailing
  • Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Manage the payroll function for a small team.
  • Manage accounts payable
  • Manage all other accounts receivable.
  • Handle onboarding and some training of new employees.
  • Set-up new customers and handle new customer on-boarding.
  • Maintain railcar, ground, warehouse, and other product inventory.
  • Assist or perform the functions of AGM or GM when they are on vacation, attending meetings, or off site.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 30 WPM typing speed
  • Prior experience in railroad accounting processes and account collections
  • Must understand and apply AAR Railroad Accounting Rules, AAR Interchange Rules, and basic accounting principles.
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to be a self-starter
  • Good analytical skills and ability to perform research
  • Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge and proficient use of RMI and RailConnect
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a thorough background check including state and national driving records review, credit check, criminal history, and past employment.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly Pay Range $29 - $32 / hour

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $29.00 - $32.00 per hour
