Position responsibilities:

  • Ensures products are accurately received into the warehouse system, labeled, and prepared for stocking by: monitoring the daily processing workload and directing labor needs; maintaining three day receiving product rule; and ensuring Distribution standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Ensures a safe work environment by: observing and coaching employees; removing potential safety hazards; maintaining a clean work area; monitoring condition of all equipment and making necessary repairs; and participating as a permanent member of the Safety Committee.
  • Resolves problems with shipments received by: determining the cause or source of the problem; communicating problems and possible solutions to vendors and truck lines; filing freight claims with truck lines; persisting with claims until paid; and communicating relevant information to the Merchandising and Accounts Payable departments.
  • Maintains department staff by: conducting interviews in the hiring process and making recommendations; overseeing the training of new employees and cross training of existing employees; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees as necessary; conducting annual performance reviews; and assigning daily errors for job performance.
  • Ensures established performance standards and budgets are met by reviewing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and taking necessary actions.
  • Ensures that all receiving documentation is accurate by: completing or gathering necessary paperwork; maintaining files; and forwarding paperwork to appropriate individuals.
  • Maintains communication between employees and supervisors by conducting bi-weekly department meetings.
  • Attends daily warehouse staff meetings and makes recommendations for handling volume of work.
  • Acts as backup for Shipping and Inventory Supervisors.
  • Ensures year-end inventory runs smoothly by: ensuring products in warehouse are kept neat and orderly; assisting the coordination of the inventory process; and counting bulk reserve stock.

Position requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.), with preference given to those who hold a college degree; 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Problem-solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Knowledge of aspects related to the shipping of products in distribution industry.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of subordinates.
  • Ability to develop efficient work procedures.
  • Ability to attend to details.
  • Ability to complete paperwork and necessary documentation.
  • Ability to listen to others to identify concerns and needs.
  • Ability to communicate with others in order to influence attitudes and actions.
  • Skill in facilitating open lines of communication.
  • Ability to communicate information across different individuals, departments, and external parties.
  • Knowledge of human resource management principles, including hiring, training and orienting, coaching, and evaluating employees.
