The industrial refrigeration mechanic operates, maintains and repairs the ammonia refrigeration system at our seafood processing plant. Our system holds in excess of 10,000 pounds of ammonia and falls under the requirements of both OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP). Balancing operational efficiencies, ensuring optimal refrigeration capabilities, minimizing down time, keeping employees and the environment safe, and meeting regulatory requirements are all critical aspects of the refrigeration department. Due to the seasonal nature of the fisheries in Alaska, our plant is only open approximately four months per year. Employees live on site in company provided bunkhouses. The work schedule is typically 12 hours per day, 7 days per week. Additional work may be required during the peak seasons. Successful candidates bring a wide range of problem solving abilities to contribute to a production-intensive team environment.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and system.
  • Monitors system to prevent potential upsets and to maximize capabilities. Performs routine inspections and documents appropriately.

NPSI provides transportation from the nearest major airport to the work location and back if you complete the season.

Employees live on site in communal bunkhouses with shared facilities, rooms are assigned based on gender identity, bed linens are provided. The cookhouse prepares hearty and nutritious meals and snacks. The housekeeping staff cleans and sanitizes restrooms and common areas. Laundry is done for employees once a week.

With no onsite expenses, and hopefully a large fish run, this is often a great way to make money in a relatively short period of time. There are additional opportunities for pay such as referral bonuses.

      We offer opportunities to grow:
Both professionally and personally! We offer the possibility to move up within our company.

NPSI offers a generous employer matching 401(k) retirement plan and you are eligible to participate on day one! We also offer affordable, traditional health insurance benefits that include medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage.

  • Willingness to adhere to a drug-free work and living environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a seafood processing plant with inherent hazards such as moving machinery, ammonia, wet floors, noise, forklift traffic, etc. Work is often in inclement weather (cold, wind, rain, snow).

We provide free, limited access to a desktop computer to check email. We also have limited WiFi connection.
