Job Summary:

The Regional Director of Operations has two main functions: ensure General Managers are upholding policies, procedures, and standards to the highest extent and lead General Mangers through personal and professional growth in up to 5 cities. In other words, the Regional Director will regularly exercise discretion in leading the General Managers and overall operation of the stores in their region including weekly travel. This is an elevated position, but it’s not elevated in terms of what you’re actually expected to do—you need a wide-open willingness to do what is needed. Flexibility, strong communication skills, leadership, lover of people, a high priority on developing people, time management skills, organizational skills, and integrity are crucial to success in this position.

Travel:

  • Regular travel of three days per week is required for this position. This includes over night, weekends, and holidays to support your teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure General Managers are upholding policies, procedures, and standards without deviation to the highest extent — you must not shy away from conflict and must be prepared to hold people’s feet to the fire
  • Travel—Weekly travel is a necessary component of this job in order to work side by side with General Managers in order to serve them well including visiting each store twice a month at a minimum
  • Organization—Organizational skills are required as you must write everything down so that follow-up occurs in a timely manner and things do not “fall through the cracks”
  • Leadership—Set goals and model how to achieve success in all aspects of store operations. Constantly review store environment and key performance indicators to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Because ice cream cravings do not follow the typical 9-5 schedule, working some nights, weekends, and holidays will be required.
  • Excellent communication with all company personnel including building professional, mentoring relationships with GM’s and team members.
  • Model work/life balance for GM’s by setting boundaries and keeping them.
  • Attend Kilwins Chocolates Franchise regional meetings twice annually and browse KCF Friday Spotlight for new information, ideas, and general franchise news
  • Communicate with CEO in weekly one-on-one meeting.
  • Place a high priority and developing people and encourage your GM’s to have the same mindset.

How We Started

Since 1947, Kilwins has been a celebrated part of Americana having earned a reputation for providing high quality chocolates, ice cream, and confections combined with excellent service. Our heritage was built on the simple premise of creating our products from the finest ingredients and providing customers with great service. Today, we continue the tradition by uniquely combining high quality products with a warm friendly customer experience, which is supported through a successful community of caring owner operators. We continue to offer the very best Confections and Ice Cream that are hand-made in our kitchen, fresh from premium ingredients and original recipes.

Kilwins began in 1947 in Petoskey, Michigan, by Don and Katy Kilwin. Fast forward to 2012. When Ashley Clark was 22-years old, she was living at home in North Carolina, with her parents and her college degree, working a job she’d had since she was 15-years old. Counting the number of times he’d been to a Kilwins on one hand, her dad made a suggestion out of the blue: “Have you ever thought about owning a Kilwins franchise?” He saw an entrepreneurial spirit in her that she didn't yet see in herself.

Kilwins in Greenville, South Carolina, opened on Friday, September 27, 2013, on North Main Street. For the next five years, Ashley and her husband Landon worked together to build a successful business with the mission of creating enjoyment and making people happy. They thought they were getting into the ice cream business, but what they soon realized was that they were in the people business. In 2018, Ashley was selected as the South Carolina Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the US Small Business Administration and in 2021, she was selected as the inaugural ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award recipient by the Greenville Chamber.

In spring 2019, Landon and Ashley began expanding with the purchase of an existing Kilwins in Highlands, North Carolina. Kilwins Highlands first opened in 1995 and was store #2 for Landon and Ashley. They continued with store #3 in 2020 in Brevard, NC, store #4 in 2021 in Franklin, TN, and store #5 in 2022 in Hendersonville, NC. They are currently focusing on expansion in Nashville, TN, and are looking for leaders.

Landon and Ashley love building relationships with their team. They teach their team to show up on time, deliver on promises, and be better communicators. Landon and Ashley are passionate about inspiring their team members to do the things that inspire them. They believe that training means belonging and that training enables change.

Landon & Ashley grew up in Forest City, NC, and met in 4-H in 1999. They attended Chase High School together and Ashley graduated from Clemson University in 2012. They’ve lived in three different states with Kilwins and currently reside in Nashville, TN, with their two daughters and two black labs. They have been able to expand and grow their business because of the incredible team of people that work alongside them.
