Veterinary Technician duties include preparing animals for examination and surgery, assisting veterinarians during medical and surgical procedures, administering medications to animals and cleaning kennels. Duties vary considerably and include all aspects of patient care, as well as technical expertise in operating lab equipment, IV fluid therapy, recording procedures and other duties associated with the day to day running of a veterinary hospital.

Responsibilities:

• Gather and prepare animals for examination, treatment, and surgery.
• Monitor wellness of animals in hospital.
• Perform various laboratory tests (e.g. bloodwork, urinalysis etc.) both in house and sending out to reference laboratories. Idexx laboratories used for both in house and send out.
• Ability to preform blood draws and catheter placements.
• Prepare and administer drugs as instructed by veterinarians.
• Demonstrate knowledge of proper surgical preparation techniques, including clipping, scrubbing, and prepping of surgical site.
• Operate x-ray machines to generate images of internal organs.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac, respiratory, pulse oximeter, and ECG instruments for use on anesthetized patients. Monitor during surgery and alert doctors to changes.
• Monitor patients recovery after anesthesia.
• Ability to preform routine dental procedures including radiographs, ultrasonic scaling, and polishing of both dogs and cats.
• Maintain accurate health record of each animal and conduct emergency procedures if necessary.
• Completes routine technician appointments such as nail trims, ear cleanings, anal gland expression, and vaccine administration.
• Basic computer skills (Avimark experience preferred)
• RVT certification or equivalent

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
