Benefits to you

Position Highlights
We are hiring a Release Assistance Officer at the
Josephine County Circuit Court
in Grants Pass, Oregon.
You will determine pretrial release options for defendants by applying Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice, Presiding Judge Orders, and using risk assessment tools. You will determine who, upon release, is most likely to appear in court, not likely to commit new offenses, and/or does not pose a threat to the community or themselves.
Your work will focus on interviewing defendants being held in custody, pending trial, as well as victims and other interested parties. You will use internal law enforcement, jail, and court case management systems, as well as defendant monitoring software to research and complete risk assessments and determine release eligibility. You will also monitor defendants regarding compliance with conditions of release. At times, you will complete and route financial affidavits to determine eligibility for court-appointed counsel.
You are expected to perform administrative and computer work related to pretrial release. In performing your work, you will prepare new files, review court orders, and respond to questions from judges, court staff, and the public regarding pretrial release and court-appointed counsel.
You will serve as a resource to the judge in criminal hearings, arraignments, release hearings, and pre-trial conferences. Lastly, you will testify in support of investigation and release recommendation, plan, or agreement. Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
(These must be evident in your work history or resume.)
The qualified candidate must have at least three (3) years of experience in a criminal justice, court, or other public safety setting that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements for this position.
AND
Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent life or work experience.
OR
A bachelor's degree in business or public administration, behavior or social/human services, or a closely related field

  • Experience communicating effectively, orally and in writing, with people in emotionally charged and stressful situations.

  • Experience working in a court, criminal justice, corrections, or other legal environment.
Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time position. You must have the ability to work night, swing, day shifts, weekends, holidays, and a combination of shifts on a rotational basis. Schedules are subject to change due to position necessity.
  • This position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • Work is located in a general office environment within a correctional facility (jail) setting.
  • Occasional local and overnight travel may be required for training and meetings.
  • Ability to work alone, within a group, without direct supervision, and with direct supervision.
  • Frequent interruptions and contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • The following equipment may be used: FTR recording equipment, audio/video equipment, telephone, OJD-assigned computer, photocopier, and office equipment.
  • Long periods of sitting may be required.

Criminal Background Check
You will be subject to a criminal background check if you are a finalist. Adverse results are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may result in disqualification if the circumstances are directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.

United States Employment Eligibility
OJD does not offer visa sponsorships. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's
