RESEARCH AND TRAINING ASSOCIATE, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL)-Global-Research, Education, and Training (RET) Group, to develop new tools for research projects, including written resources, software code, packages, programs, etc., that increase the efficiency of research staff. Will research and design new teaching modules and prepare presentations, case studies, and manuals to train policymakers/researchers/research staff on randomized evaluation methods; assist with planning, organizing, and conducting training courses/workshops; support J-PAL’s online course portfolio, including MIT’s MicroMasters program, by serving as a teaching assistant for advanced courses, assisting students with data analysis assignments, coordinating with others at MIT to successfully run each course, and conducting data analysis to test the relative effectiveness of different pedagogies for J-PAL’s online courses; support the development of relationships with key partners in governments, NGOs, foundations, multilateral aid agencies, and universities worldwide for capacity building; and maintain tracking, monitoring, and evaluation systems for training courses and research publications and report to the RET group and management.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, education, public policy, international development, or related field; training in and strong technical understanding of randomized impact evaluations; two years’ work experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate); experience in quantitative data analysis, economics, or related discipline; interest in poverty alleviation policy/research as demonstrated by coursework and/or study or work abroad; knowledge of data management, data analysis, and econometrics; solid command of (or willingness to learn) Stata or knowledge of R or other analytics programs; and MS Office proficiency (PowerPoint, Excel). PREFERRED: master’s degree; experience cleaning and analyzing large, complex datasets; LaTeX knowledge; exposure to MATLAB, Python, or Julia; and experience conducting field research in developing countries.
