The Urban Institute's Health Policy Center is looking for a Research Assistant to support senior researchers on several projects examining Medicaid and CHIP, the Affordable Care Act, maternal and child health initiatives, public access to health benefits, health equity, and other related topics. Projects will include a variety of research and analytic assignments related to health care access and use among underserved populations, Medicaid expansion and demonstration programs, maternal and child health, women’s health and access to reproductive health care, and access to care for children with special health care needs.
What you’ll do:

  • Assist in the preparation for and conducting of case studies involving focus groups, key informant interviews, and community engaged methods
  • Analyze qualitative data with NVIVO or Dedoose software
  • Summarize findings and present information effectively in multiple formats
  • Work closely with senior researchers and often contribute to research papers and peer-reviewed publications.
Who you are:
The successful candidate will:

  • Approach research with an attitude of cultural humility, given the nature of qualitative research and working with and on behalf of vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct qualitative research; prior experience in similar settings, including working with focus groups and interview data, as well as substantive knowledge and interest in health policy or related fields are preferred
  • Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills
  • Be detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team while contributing to and managing workflows on multiple projects
  • Applications for this position will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but we expect to fill the position in early spring, 2022.
