Position Summary

The Department of Family & Community Medicine’s Research Management team seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill the Research Information Specialist position. The Research Info Specialist will work closely with the Vice Chair of Research, Sr. Program Manager and Sr. Contract and Grant Administrator to support FCM faculty and staff in the identification and application for grant funding. They will also support faculty’s scholarship efforts and on occasion provide specific research project support. The Research Information Specialist will also serve as a research liaison between FCM and its clinical networks, including First Choice Community Health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and assistance to faculty and staff in the design, development and preparation of all components of grant submissions – identify funding opportunities, determine eligibility and requirements, consult with team on project design and implementation and editing grant proposals. Write and edit research components and other proposal documents (i.e. bio-sketches, other support documents, letters of support, resource sharing plans, facilities and resources, and protection of human subjects). Maintain familiarity with funding priorities, new opportunities, and submission guidelines of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (NIH, HRSA, AHRQ, CDC), other federal agencies, Bernalillo County, City of Albuquerque, and local and national foundations (McCune, Con Alma, RWJF, Macy, Gates).
  • Serves as a research-based liaison between FCM and clinical networks, including First Choice Community Health.
  • Understand research study designs and find tailored grant funding opportunities for faculty. Monitor sponsor websites and communications to anticipate future funding opportunities. Participate in the planning, development, and creation of FCM Research division products including grants procedure guides, department tracking documents/databases, annual reports, and the quarterly department research newsletter. May organize writing group and delegate tasks to RMT student workers.
  • Assist faculty with the implementation of their research projects to include IRB submissions, data maintenance, project coordination, participant recruitment and follow-up, participant remuneration tracking, REDCap survey development, and basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Serve as a liaison with HSC Sponsored Projects Office to submit proposals and ensure compliance with all institutional processes and procedures. Coordinate receipt of award and contract documentation; maintain project files and prepare annual reports and continuations. Develop checklists and timelines, prepare budgets, communicate with program officers and funding agencies, coordinate internal and community partners, and prepare sub-award documents.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to design, develop, and present scientific manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures of qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Familiarity with federal human subjects research regulations and/or Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol.
  • Proficiency with Click ERA and Huron (Click) IRB
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
