JOB TITLE: Research Scientist
JOB SUMMARY
Design and perform scientific research spanning multiple products to include technical execution of experiments and protocol writing/development. Help develop scientific strategy, lead scientific contribution and effort for product line, and make decisions relevant to the project. Highly qualified within the function with intermediate understanding of and demonstrated experience working with and across multiple functions that are closely related. Represent scientific perspective to stakeholders within the company including regulatory, clinical, engineering, manufacturing, commercial, and marketing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects, working cooperatively and effectively in a team environment to achieve common goals and results
Works as an independent contributor and subject matter expert on project or product; may also serve as a subject matter expert on methodology
Coordinates with laboratory leadership to accomplish objectives and complete required work; volunteers to take ownership of tasks to ensure team results are achieved
Applies fundamental scientific principles to multiple tasks within a large project or full scope of activities for smaller projects
Guides protocols and reports to support research, scientific, technical, or engineering-related disciplines
Leads in producing and reviewing scientific evidence and documentation to support global regulatory submission and maintenance, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements
Interprets data and performs quantitative analysis to produce reports and information related to research for internal audiences
Effectively prepares publications (abstracts, posters, manuscripts, marketing material) and presentations of original ideas or technical information/analysis for audiences inside and outside the Scientific Affairs department
Develops and validates new analytical methods/lab procedures and evaluates new technologies to increase laboratory capabilities
Follows department plans and processes and regularly makes recommendations to optimize workflow and improve these processes
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
Establishes and supports external study sites; works to resolve problems encountered at external study sites, as needed
Serves as a GLP Study Director, when needed
Analyzes biological laboratory samples using specialized lab equipment and methods, while maintaining accurate lab records and logs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. Advanced degree in biological, physical, chemical or medical science preferred. (B+10, M+5, D+0)
Experience
Minimum 5 – 10 year experience required depending on education level. This is an entry level position for those with a Doctoral degree in a related field with no postdoctoral experience.
Skills
Theoretical and practical knowledge of scientific concepts, laboratory testing techniques, biological and/or chemical systems, documentation, and use and calibration of scientific/laboratory instrumentation
Comprehensive knowledge of blood and blood components
Specialized skills in microscopy, flow cytometry, and/or hematology
Self-directed and ability to work independently; strong initiative and willingness to take on additional responsibilities
Ability to provide mentoring to other scientific staff, as well as receive feedback from experienced research scientists and other leaders
Ability to solve problems of moderate complexity, generate alternatives, solicit/incorporate the ideas of others, and recommend solutions
Enthusiasm to learn and share new methods and techniques within area
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Basic knowledge of cross-functional and related scientific areas
Basic knowledge of general business environment and operations and has a general budget/cost awareness
General understanding of GLPs, medical statistics and experimental design
Knowledge and use of relevant PC software applications and skills to use them effectively.

Typical office environment requirements: reading, speaking, hearing, close vision, walking, bending, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Target Pay Range: $79,100.00 to $98,800.00 - Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
