Per diem- first and second shift

Basic Function

This position maintains the unit's cleanliness and assists nursing staff in meeting resident needs with the explicit intent that these positions do not provide hands-on, direct care to the residents.

This is responsible, supportive work to provide an acceptable living environment for the residents. The work is done under the direction of a staff nurse and review is frequent. The employee may work in a team or receive individual task assignments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Helps to maintain cleanliness and neatness of resident rooms, resident dining areas, nurses’ station, resident lounges, bathing areas and other work areas on the nursing unit.
  • Cleans the resident’s closets, nightstands, wheelchairs and devices as needed or directed by nurse in charge.
  • Makes unoccupied beds.
  • Provides 1:1 support to a resident in need; as directed by nurse in charge.
  • Transports clean linen to nursing unit and soiled linens to the soiled linen area.
  • Transports unit trash to trash bins.
  • Assists with keeping a residents’ water pitcher clean, filled with fresh ice water and within easy reach.
  • Performs meal care; distributes water, applies clothing protectors, passes meal trays and then removes trays after the meal is completed.
  • Responds to call lights, relays all resident direct-care requests to certified nursing assistant or staff nurse.
  • Provides non-clinical services to residents, including but not limited to: obtaining books, tuning radios and TV’s, drawing curtains, and any other functions that do not require hands-on care; as directed by nurse in charge.
  • Assists in transporting wheelchair-bound residents to and from meals and other in-house activities; as scheduled or directed by nurse in charge.
  • Ambulates with independent residents, accompanies independent residents on walks within facility or on facility grounds as directed by nurse in charge.
  • Reports any defective equipment to the staff nurse and updates equipment and supply needs as directed by nurse in charge.
  • Maintains and stocks nursing supplies for staff use on the nursing units.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Reports all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the staff nurse.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
