Riverside Medical Group located in Newport News, Virginia is currently seeking Acute Care trained NP’s or PA’s who are interested in developing a career in Critical Care Medicine. This one year Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship program is designed to facilitate transition to practice for a novice provider. Candidates for this fellowship may include newly graduated APPs or experienced providers interested in changing career tracts.
Application deadline in April 30, 2023. Final applicants’ selections deadline by May 31, 2023 with a fellowship start date of October 2, 2023. Fellowship graduation will be October 2024.

- A 500-word letter of intent why you wish to complete a postgrad fellowship in critical care
- Two (2) Reference Contacts: 1 academic, 1 Supervisory (either preceptor or manager)
- Transcripts to date
This program is designed as a post-graduate specialty focused 1 year fellowship. It will include a 6-month rotation in our Medical ICU with the remaining time spent in structured rotations to facilitate knowledge and competence in critical care. Candidates will work primarily at the Riverside Regional Medical Center campus but may rotate to other RHS facilities to gain necessary skills.
Progress throughout the program will be guided by structured evaluations and continuous feedback from faculty and mentors. Didactic presentations will occur weekly with regular assignments/testing validations. Expectations include the completion of a culmination project to be determined by the student. Students will be expected to present case studies on a routine basis to review diagnostic and testing plans for a variety of patients.
Work shifts are anticipated to be 10-12 hours in length with an average work week of 50-60 hours during the program. Interested candidates should be willing to learn in a fast paced environment, be self-directed and flexible to meet the patient care needs in Critical Care.

Education
Nurse Practitioner- Masters in Nursing
Nurse Practitioner License
Nurse Practitioner certification in Acute Care, or Acute Care Adult Gerontology NP required
Physician Assistant - Master Degree
Physician Assistant License
Physician Assistant Certification

Required
- Meet comprehensive and professional standards

Scope of Practice
- Perform physical examinations and assessments of health with a knowledge of normal versus abnormal findings
- Develop disease specific patient care plans
- Order, interpret lab, and radiologic diagnostic studies
- Prescribe appropriate medications/dosing ranges
- Complete timely, accurate documentation regarding plan of care development and patient outcomes
- Perform unit specific procedures under supervision when appropriate
