Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking an experienced Command and Control Software Engineer to join our diverse team, working on ground systems for restricted satellite systems or in software development for payload management software.

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA. The candidate will have the opportunity to design, develop, document, test, and debug software written in various computer languages. Ensures software standards are met. Must have the ability to work effectively within a team environment, ability to interface with other groups within the project, well developed problem-solving skills, and ability to working within a dynamic environment. Works under general direction. Determines and develops technical solutions to complex problems independently.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

This position can be filled with either a T03 or T04 level based on qualifications

Basic Qualifications for T03:

  • Current SCI security clearance.
  • 5 Years of Engineering experience with Bachelors in Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; 3 Years with Masters; 0 years with PhD
  • Experience with JAVA, C/C++ on Linux-based systems
  • Experience with scripting languages (csh, Perl, Python)
  • Docker/Kubernetes, Cloud and DevOps

Basic Qualifications for T04:

  • Current SCI security clearance.
  • 9 Years of Engineering experience with Bachelors in Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; 7 Years with Masters; 4 years with PhD
  • Experience with JAVA, C/C++ on Linux-based systems
  • Experience with scripting languages (csh, Perl, Python)
  • Docker/Kubernetes, Cloud and DevOps

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing satellite ground systems, in areas of telemetry, tracking, and commanding or mission management
  • Experience in software development for payload management software; includes software design, implementation, integration, test, and documentation to program and customer standards.
  • Knowledge of payload commanding, spacecraft command and control, telemetry processing, and time and frequency management is desired.
  • Experience in visualizations/user experience and cloud architectures
  • Experience with git and ClearQuest
  • Experience with a Java IDE (Eclipse or NetBeans), Jboss, Java Messaging Services, Eclipse RCP
  • Experience with relational database design and SQL programming
  • Experience in Agile software development
  • Experience in embedded software development
  • Experience in Service Oriented Architecture

This position reports to Redondo Beach, CA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 3 locations listed above.



Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
