Position Description

Safety Coordinator

Hourly Wage: $30.00 to $35.00

Regular, full-time position, non-exempt

Reports to: General Manager

Summary Statement: The Safety Coordinator position is a paraprofessional who is responsible for all roofing operations, office, shop and grounds safety. The primary focuses of the position includes inspections, safety training, reporting, workers compensation claims, developing safety policies and procedures, organizational skills, and excellent communication and writing skills. Knowledge of OSHA, Federal, State and City regulations and Oregon BOLI laws and regulations, computer and software skills, excellent problem-solving skills, timely decision and sound judgement. A qualified Safety Coordinator performs all duties and responsibilities described below with minimum supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct monthly Safety Toolbox Talks and file the meetings by date in a 3-ring binder.

2. Oversee inspections of all fall protection gear, rigging, hoisting equipment, rental equipment, and fire extinguishers.

3. Responsible to “STOP ALL UNSAFE WORK IMMEDIATELY.”

4. Coordinates with employees and other trades involving safety concerns.

5. Monitor’s the job site with the ability to detect unsafe practices, careless behavior, and for all types of weather-related conditions.

6. Perform job site safety inspections and audits to maintain compliance with all Federal, State, City, OSHA and Company policies and procedures.

7. Responsible for developing site specific safety plans.

8. Keep inventory and order all safety supplies and PPE as needed.

9. Attend all General Contractor required safety meetings if needed.

10. Resolve any safety questions, issues, or concerns employees have regarding safety.

11. Communicate any and all safety concerns to the Project Manager and Foreman.

12. Communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, contractors, subcontractors and vendors.

13. Excellent interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with colleagues, customers, subcontractors and vendors.

14. Perform necessary training along with any retraining due to non-compliance issues.

15. Follow up and manage injuries that have occurred on site.

16. Responsible for obtaining, reviewing and filing the form 801 to SAIF.

17. Responsible for filling out and posting the OSHA 300 and 300A forms.

18. Responsible to work with SAIF on all workers compensation claims.

19. Responsible for keeping the SDS (Safety Data Sheets) binder up to date.

20. Review site specific Safety Plan with all employees working on the project prior to start of each job and fill out job site safety inspection check list.

21. Fill out daily safety job reports and review with the General Manager.

22. Maintain records of toolbox talk, safety inspections/audits, and site-specific training.

23. Make recommendations to the General Manager about new procedures to carry out work safely at weekly meetings.

24. Responsible for being punctual (coming to work on agreed time).

25. Responsible to maintain regular and consistent attendance

26. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of company equipment.

27. Perform additional related duties as requested.

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. High School diploma or equivalent.

2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction with emphasis being in safety.

3. OSHA 30 Certificate is required.

4. Knowledge in OSHA and Oregon BOLI laws and regulations

5. Demonstrates ability to remain calm and cool-headed in the event of an emergency.

6. Must have excellent problem solving and analytical skills.

7. Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols.

8. Demonstrates familiarity with job site equipment and materials.

9. Must be detailed oriented.

10. Must make timely decisions using sound judgement.

11. Must have excellent communication skills.

12. Must have excellent written communication skills.

13. Able to collaborate with a muti-cultural team.

14. Able to work independently.

15. Ability to organize work and meet stringent schedules with minimum supervision.

16. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors to accomplish tasks through teamwork, maintaining strict standards of confidentiality.

17. Ability to move various material up to 50 lbs., on job site if required.

18. Ability to walk 5-10 miles & ascend/descend ladders/stairs to upper floors of buildings.

19. Able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

20. Proficient with a computer and Microsoft Suite software.

21. Current and valid Oregon driver’s license preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,012.00 per year
