Job Description Summary:

The Safety & Environmental Manager supports Bel corporate and local safety, security and environmental mission through the design, implementation and management of safety, security and environmental programs and processes. This position is accountable for delivering safety, security and environmental solutions for the Little Chute Bel manufacturing facility and ensuring the internal programs and policies are compliant with company, local, state and federal regulations. The incumbent will provide support to plant leadership and plant employees.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluates site hazards and safety, security, and environmental compliance through internal audits and risk assessments to develop and implement improvements to achieve best-practice standards.
  • Develops and reviews internal policies and programs to ensure compliance with company, local, state and federal policies and regulations relating to safety, security, and environmental matters. Makes changes and updates to policies as necessary.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to Supervisors with various safety, security, and environmental related initiatives.
  • Manages the safety and environmental budget.
  • Evaluates processes and equipment modifications for safety, security, and environmental performance.
  • Manages the administration of safety and environmental records, including TF Bel, accidents, near misses, property damage, good catches, and corrective action reports.
  • Tracks and monitors Key Safety, Security, and Environmental Performance Indicators and analyzes results to establish goals and recommendations for new approaches to effect continual improvements and mitigate risks.
  • Develops and implements training requirements, including conducting safety, security and environmental orientation for new hires, and facilitating training for current workforce.
  • Acts as Lead and/or Sponsor for each of the 5 internal safety teams to ensure appropriate investigation, collaboration, and completion of incidents and actions from each team (i.e. Incident/Near Miss, Behavior Safety, Leadership, Safety Committee, and Policy/Program).
  • Acts as “change agent” and advocate as it relates to continuous improvement programs for the Little Chute.
  • Leads and supports plant certification and audit activities associated with 14001 and 45000 certifications.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Safety, Environmental and Quality

  • Follows all safety rules and procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others.
  • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable to the job.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy.
  • Follow all food safety procedures.
  • Maintains a sanitary and safe work area; performs housekeeping duties as necessary and/or required.
  • Detects potentially hazardous conditions and problems and takes appropriate action to report and/or correct.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with at least 2 years of Safety and/or Environmental experience in a specialist role.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, demonstrated experience in safety leadership role for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Experience in dairy or food manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Safety professional certification is preferred.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office) required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak Spanish is preferred.

Working Conditions: Work is performed largely in an office and Plant environment. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and average 40 hours a week. There will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines and other concerns. Likely to experience frequent interruptions to work flow. Limited travel may be required.
