Salad & Cold Food Assistant, Full-time

Summary

Prepare, season, and cook for hospital patients, cafe customers and catered events. Work under the leadership of culinary professionals. Working in a flexible team environment. Using a variety of cooking/culinary techniques cold prep, batch cookery, proper scaling of recipes.) Knowledge of panini press, blender, slicer, turbo chef and range.

Key Responsibilities

• A true scratch kitchen.
• Create daily chef specials for the Constitution Café.
• Creative recipe development that change seasonally.
• Utilizing Anti biotic meats and local produce when in season.
• Standardized recipes are properly scaled and executed with recording of waste.
• Modified diet preparation for patients are followed.
• Washing, trimming, seasoning, cooking and serving of food items adheres to production sheets and portion sizes
• Standardized recipes are followed as stated.
• Sanitation and cleaning assignments are completed as instructed.
• Food preparation, sanitation, and safety standards are maintained and improved to achieve department goals.
• Participating in pre-meals in the café.
• Planning of utilization of roof top garden produce.
• Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

Education/Degree

Preferred

• High School Degree or GED preferred
• Have Serv Safe certificate or obtain in the first year of employment.

Experience

Preferred

• 3-5 years experience in hospital, institutional, and/or restaurant hot and cold food preparation preferred.

Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)

Required

• Effective verbal, electronic and written communications skills using the English language
• Maintain variable work schedule to meet department needs. (evenings, holidays, weekends and travel).
• Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team

Preferred

• Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.
• Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.
• High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
• Computer proficiency preferred. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software
• Attention to detail.
