The School District of Beloit is seeking a School Counselor for Beloit Memorial High School. This is a full time/permanent position based on a 192 day calendar (prorated for 2022-2023). Candidates must have a WI DPI license #7054 or be willing to obtain it. Candidate will join a strong, dynamic team of dedicated professional educators focused on continuous improvement.   • Master's degree in the area of Guidance and Counseling
  • Strong counseling experience preferred
  • Ability to accurately assess student achievement toward district curriculum
  • Reflective practitioner who is able to implement modifications
  • Good organization and accuracy skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; good listener
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relate to others including students, parents, staff, and community members
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong understanding of Response to Intervention (RtI) model and its implementation

RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties
  • Lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity
  • Aid students in individual student planning in course and subject selection
  • Provide students the opportunity to explore career interest and choices
  • Provide individual or group counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity
  • Work with students on an individual basis to assist in the solution of personal problems
  • Guide students in their participation in school and community activities
  • Assist the preparation of making decisions regarding post-secondary options
  • Provide access to scholarships and post-secondary options
  • Confer with parents, teachers, and students whenever necessary
  • Work with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the student services department
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation
  • Write letters of recommendation, complete forms, or prepare documentation on student's behalf upon request under reasonable terms
  • Refer students with critical needs, in consultation with their parents, to appropriate community resources and student support services
  • Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school
  • Make changes whenever and wherever necessary to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the service hired to perform
  • Will use School Counseling curriculum which consists of structured lessons designed to help students achieve the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level
  • Use of student data to affect systemic change within the school system so every student receives the benefit of the school counseling program
  • 80 percent of the professional school counselor's time is spent with direct service with students
  • Professional school counselors use data to show the impact of the school counseling program on school improvement and student achievement.
  • Support building administration in the facilitation of state and district-wide assessments
  • Assist the various departments within the school in their efforts to demonstrate educational program effectiveness
  • Plan/prepare for instructional programming that will best meet student needs using student transcript information and Individualized Educational Plans when applicable
  • Participate in the Student Intervention Team process as assigned
  • Conduct structure, goal-oriented counseling sessions in systemic response to identified needs of individual students and groups of students
  • Prepare and provide structured support in times of individual and school-wide crises as they arise
  • Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students
  • Conduct in-service programs for faculty as directed by the Principal
  • Consult with and direct parents to appropriate ancillary staff regarding referrals for special education and 504 plans
  • Advocate for gifted and talented programming and monitor student progress involved with such programming
  • Participate and contribute in IEP meetings as directed through the invitation process

DISTRICT SUPPORT
  • Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and promptness in submitting time cards, reports, inventories, evaluations, and other information requested.
  • Observe, support, and enforce the mission, policies and programs of the District and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students with disabilities and other sensitive student information at all times in all settings.
