Overview

Branch Brook Park Alliance in partnership with Essex County Department of Parks, is seeking highly energetic Seasonal Gardeners interested in caring for Essex County Branch Brook Park. The employer is Essex County. This temporary, seasonal position provides opportunities to learn about horticulture, plant selection, garden design, and developing transferable workforce skills. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

• Mulch, edge, cultivate, and remove invasive plant species, weeds, and plants
• Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and plants
• Install,monitor, and maintain trees, shrubs, and perennials
• Monitor and maintain Park grounds to ensure a pleasant appearance
• Working with and leading volunteers in support of stewardship tasks

Physical Demands

The candidate must be able to handle physical demands such as ...

• Lift up to 50lbs. to waist height
• Work outdoors for 6-8 hours on your feet in a variety of weather conditions
• Handle shovels, rakes, pruners, handsaws, and other tools in a safe manner

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience landscaping (preferred but not required)
• Expereince leading volunteers
• Strong interest in horticulture, public parks, landscape design, and environmental issues
• Must be willing to undergo a criminal history background verification

Compensation

This position is temporary, funded by the Essex County Department of Parks, begins on March 6, 2023 and ends on October 31, 2023.

• $14.13 per hour
• Part-time
• Workdays are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
• Possible shift times are flexible between 6 am and 7 pm
