Position Summary:

The Second Chance Pell Liaison provides support to the campus lead for the Second Chance Pell programs at Quinebaug Valley (QVCC) or Three Rivers (TRCC) Community Colleges.

Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education, human services or related area; or a combination of education, training, and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience working with Department of Corrections (DOC) safety and security policies and practices.
  • Experience working with complex educational programs that provide incarcerated students with access to high quality courses and adhere to policies and NECHE standards

  • Five (5) or more years of working experience with the CT Department of Corrections

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Interim Dean of Prison Education & Special Programs for Connecticut State Community College or designee, The Second Chance Pell Liaison is responsible for providing support for the campus lead of the Second Chance Pell program through effective performance in these essential duties:

  • Support all aspects of the Second Chance Pell.
  • Work with Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Business Office, Continuing Education, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Academic Affairs, and Human Resources to provide support for all aspects of the Second Chance Pell program.
  • Main point of contact between the college and the Department of Correction Central Office and contacts at each facility.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of classes at each DOC facility with facility contacts.
  • Coordinate the delivery of student supplies to each DOC facility.
  • Meet with current and potential students to complete all application and financial aid paperwork.
  • Coordinate and administer all placement testing requirements in compliance with the college's policy.
  • Respond to student inquiries.
  • Coordinate graduation ceremonies at each DOC facility.
  • Respond to all Federal Department of Education and VERA Institute inquiries.
