The Secure Detention Counselor position is responsible for creating a safe, therapeutic and caring environment for youth in a secure detention setting. The goal of the position is to ensure basic needs are met with a primary emphasis on proper supervision and interaction with all aspects of the program. This includes facility, recreational and educational activities while teaching social skills through relationship building and role-modeling.
Sign on Bonus - $1,250
- 3pm-11pm Shifts are currently only needs at this time
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and engage youth in activities.
- Form therapeutic relationships with youth and families.
- Observe, guide and correct as necessary, delinquent, unsafe and/or unusual behavior.
- Evaluate, interpret, instruct and guide the behavior of youth and to assess and manage group dynamics.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED; Associates Degree preferred.
- At least one (1) year of employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting, preferred
- Various schedules and shifts available.
- Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.
- Skills: demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, including attention to detail; capable of working in a stressful environment; ability to become TCI, First/Aid CPR certified.
- Pay is dependent on experience & education, starting at $21.64 hourly
- Current shifts available are 3pm-11pm
Education
Required
- High School/General Equiv Diploma or better
- Associates or better
