About this position
$2000 Sign-on Bonus
This position is eligible for a sign on bonus. Current team members or former team members employed by North Memorial Health, Maple Grove Health or Blaze Health in the last six (6) months are not eligible to receive a sign on bonus. Sign-on bonuses have a repayment commitment, and a prorated repayment is required if the commitment is not fulfilled.
Proactive in providing a safe and secure environment for customers, visitors, team members and medical staff. May act as Senior Officer in charge.
What we’ll expect from you
- Conducts tours of the medical center maintaining visibility and assistance to staff, customers, and visitors and ensuring security, and to detect and prevent fire, theft, property damage and unauthorized persons.
- Escorts customers, visitors and staff to the ramps and lots.
- Assists police departments with disruptive persons and crisis customers.
- Initiates and follows standard operating procedure for disaster and weather incidents as per department protocol.
- Assists in Aircare customer transport as needed.
- Removes individuals who exhibit inappropriate behavior, disorderly conduct and/or who pose a threat to staff, customers and visitors from hospital property.
- Assists nursing staff in maintaining a safe environment through verbal and physical control of confused or disruptive customers.
- Controls fire incidents until the fire department arrives and serves as a liaison with the fire department.
- Makes rounds of entire campus to detect and report hazards and takes appropriate, corrective action as indicated by the hazard.
- Conducts hospital fire drills as scheduled.
- Instructs hospital team members on standard operating procedures for life safety issues, severe weather, external and internal disasters, and personal safety. Acts as a liaison to other hospital departments.
- Utilizes the security dispatch and report writing system.
- Documents reports, including details, and follow up investigations in the event of stolen property, accidents, safety/security violations, fire hazards, and violent incidents
- Provides assistance to all departments as needed.
- Facilitates necessary paperwork for release of bodies and limbs to authorized funeral home or medical examiner.
- Assists with parking, traffic problems and enforces parking regulations.
- Procures supplies from Materials Management on an emergency basis.
- Opens non-flammable gas cylinder room for public safety agencies. Documents release of cylinders. Unlocks doors as requested and authorized
- Notifies Maintenance Department when defects are discovered or reported.
- Secures cash and receipts from departments as needed. Provides money escorts for various departments.
- Secures/dispenses customer valuables and accurately logs all valuables accepted/dispensed by the department.
- Releases organizational keys to authorized persons, e.g. vendors, contractors, etc.
- Secures/safeguards police officer's weapons.
- Secures/safeguards all property noted to be evidence by law enforcement agencies.
- Scheduled Security Posts: Monitors ED CCTV; Maintains on-going communications with triage nurse, primary care nurses, and/or administrative designee.
- Senior Officer in Charge Functions/Tasks: Established and coordinates daily work schedules and security post coverage. Ensures proper documentation is completed per department guidelines. Ensures any emergent conditions are immediately corrected and reported to the appropriate individuals.
- Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.

Education
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
- Must satisfactorily complete defensive tactics course within six months of employment, or have documented equivalent training (having occurred within the past twelve months prior to employment)
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Must have one of the following:
- 3+ years providing direct customer service utilizing conflict resolution skills on a daily basis.
- 2+ years direct patient contact in a level I trauma center in an emergency department setting.
Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory
- Must have the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety Basic Certification or complete within 6 months of hire for full time and regularly scheduled part-time team members. Casual team members within 12 months of hire.
- Valid class D driver's license in state of residency with acceptable driving record.
- Must be qualified by North Memorial Health Care Department of Transportation to operate hospital vehicles. NMHC Standard
