Canterbury Court is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our family. The Full-time position is in the Accounting division of our Life Plan Community (LPC). We invite you to experience Canterbury Court.

The Senior Accountant will ensure all accounting transactions are performed correctly and in accordance to generally accepted accounting principles. The primary responsibilities include assisting with month end closing and preparation of accurate and timely financial statements; performing balance sheet, revenue & expense account reconciliations; and taking ownership of the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. The Senior Accountant will also ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions. The successful candidate will be able to combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and data.
Responsibilities

  • Assist with month end close including preparing journal entries & verifying the accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Reconcile subledger to general ledger account balances.
  • Distribute & reconcile purchase cards (p-cards) statements each month.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, budget reports, and explanations of budget variances.
  • Provide & compile documentation requested for annual audit.
  • Audit resident files to ensure accuracy & compliance with organizational policies.
  • Transmit bi-weekly payroll; review payroll reports for accuracy & proper authorizations.
  • Process accounts payable; verify proper expense allocations & approvals.
  • Generate resident invoices and ensure reconciliation to census report.
  • Review/correct GL transactions to maintain data integrity, consistency, and compliance.
  • Assist with implementing best practices and procedures in all accounting functions and activities.
  • Monitor AR and assist with collections and follow-up calls, reconciling customer balances and making appropriate corrections where necessary.
  • Complete projects as requested by senior management.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules (including acquisitions, depreciation/amortization & dispositions).
  • Prepare vendor 1099-MISC at year end.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have an Accounting degree and at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proficient in General Ledger Software systems Great Plains.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to function as a team player.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Accuracy in daily work and other projects.
  • Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines.
  • Adherence to policies, procedures and instructions of Management.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with residents, vendors and other employees.

  • Requires the ability to hear, read, and write in English.
  • Must be able to learn new software packages, including HR information systems, actuarial software, and payroll systems.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with residents, Associates, support agencies, physicians, and consultants.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stress.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions.
  • Ability to hear and respond to loudspeaker pages.
  • May not be a resident of Canterbury Court.
  • Ability to operate a variety of automated office machines, including a personal computer and printer, fax machine, and copier.

Must be able to work in an environment subject to noise, distractions, and interruptions.
