Summary: Consistently and proactively participates in improving methodologies, processes, tools, and technologies. Promotes an agile mindset and leverages agile practices. Responsible for collaborating with the Product Owners and Stakeholders regarding software requirements and effectively translating requirements to the delivery team. Works closely with delivery team members to ensure that the Sprint goals are met and that the requirements are implemented efficiently and effectively. Collaborates with stakeholders to maintain the Business Process Architecture (including process models and supporting documentation). Consistently demonstrates intermediate to advanced proficiency in most Underlying Competencies (UCs) of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK V3.0), along with a desire and the potential to grow in each.

  • Collaborate with the Manager of Business Systems Analysts, Principal Business Systems Analysts, Business Stakeholders, Solutions Architects, Data Architects, and other stakeholders (as appropriate) to maintain (revise, submit, publish) the Business Process Architecture (including process models and supporting documentation).
  • Consistently and mostly independently performs complex research and analysis of the requirements throughout the Product Development Lifecycle and spanning all requirement types including Business Requirements (ex. Underlying Needs), Functional Requirements (Ex. User Stories), Non-functional Requirements (Ex. Availability of a User Story), and Transitional Requirements (Ex. Training or Data Migration) to determine what the system needs to do to fulfill those requirements. As a part of this responsibility, collaborate with stakeholders to perform activities like Requirements Modeling, Requirements Architecture, and Requirements Validation, to ensure understanding of the various requirements and what the system must do to meet them.
  • Consistently promotes and supports Principal Business Systems Analysts in establishing group standards and processes. Collaborates with the Principal BSA, Manager of Business Systems Analysts, BSA Community, and other stakeholders (where appropriate) to facilitate the identification, definition, documentation, communication, publication, and maintenance of guidelines for the practices of business systems analysis (ex. Requirements Elicitation and Collaboration Guidelines) to ensure that established guidelines align with the agreed upon industry knowledge base (ex. BABOK® and Agile Extension), organization objectives, and the BSA Community goals.
  • Leverage the agreed upon business analysis knowledge base, including the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK) and the Agile Extension to the BABOK ®, to simultaneously coach, formally mentor, and guide as many as 3 Business Systems Analysts (Associate to Senior) at varying levels by regularly meeting with aligned Business Systems Analysts; working with the BSAs to establish coaching and mentoring goals; establishing a coaching and mentoring approach for the BA; and assessing progress.
  • Working closely with the Scrum Master, Product Owner, Manager of Business Systems Analysts, the BSA Community, and other appropriate stakeholders, regularly assesses (and collaboratively improves) the strategies and procedures, related to analysis activities and deliverables. This includes agile documentation. Leverage proven, deep knowledge of business analysis principles, techniques, and tools, including those defined in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge ® (BABOK), the Agile Extension to the BABOK®, and the Agile Manifesto.
  • Collaborating with Agile teams, ensures that sprint objectives are completed in a timely manner, consistently achieving team commitments regardless of role or title. This typically involves supporting the Product Owner by refining the product backlog in agreed upon tools (like Jira) and populating the sprint backlog up to three sprints in advance, according to sprint objectives; identifying user stories (or other requirements) and adding them to the backlog within Jira; defining shell user stories; splitting stories; analyzing user stories by modeling (in tools like Visio); performing story mapping and tying each story to the epics in JIRA; facilitating refinement sessions with the Scrum Team and Product Owner; confirming stories meet the Definition of Ready and align with sprint goals; sharing data dictionary updates with Data Integration & Governance (DIG). Depending on specific assignment and need, it may sometimes include code searching (using tools like Swagger).
  • Draws upon a deep business analysis toolkit (made up of industry proven tools like those in the BABOK and Agile Extension to BABOK) to resolve any analysis related issues or roadblocks that may interfere with meeting sprint goals and team commitments and facilitate learning around the analysis related challenges identified during the sprint. The specific tools and techniques leveraged may vary based on specific assignment.
  • Facilitate learning around analysis related challenges by collaborating with the Scrum Team (and others where appropriate) to establish mitigation strategies for identified challenges. Consults with Principal BSAs (as appropriate) to ensure strategies as the Scrum Team level align with strategies across the practice.
  • Provide support to the delivery team in testing and implementing solutions, as well as backfilling as Product Owner or Scrum Master as needed, including but not limited to answering user story related questions and following up with the Product Owner and business stakeholder to get clarification; reviewing technical design to assess whether the proposed solutions meets the requirements and underlying needs; coordinating user acceptance testing to ensure product implementation meets customer and stakeholder needs and expectations, and assisting with day-to-day production issues.
  • Work closely with the Product Owner and other Stakeholders in requirement elicitation meetings and translate the requirements into common language that can be adopted for use with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) or Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Collaborate with management and Product Owners across Agile teams (as needed) to ensure their expectations of the Analyst are met and business objectives are achieved. Leverages resources including (but not limited to) the Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring knowledge area of the BABOK ®.
  • Participates in industry and other professional networks to ensure awareness of industry standards, trends, and good practices. Strengthens organizational and technical knowledge.

Qualifications/Education/Certifications:

Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; plus, six to eight years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Prefer experience in Healthcare, Pharmacy Benefits Management and/or Ancillary Benefits Management, workers’ compensation and/or insurance industry.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Duties are performed primarily in a home office setting utilizing computer equipment. Travel to attend meetings and visit locations throughout the country may be required.
