As a Senior Controls Engineer in our Troy, Michigan branch, you will be responsible for the design, documentation, programming, and the building of custom robotic Automation Systems. This position requires a strong technical ability in the fields of controls and electrical design and is for a motivated individual who enjoys a variety of responsibility.

What Would a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Documentation of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and cooling systems (i.e.: schematics, ladder diagrams, etc.)
  • Work with other members of the control systems design department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost
  • Machine labeling syntax of electrical wiring, components, hoses, etc. and how to document this information in the schematics
  • Component sizing and wiring
  • Interfacing and communication with devices; Analog, Fieldbus, Ethernet, Device Net, etc.

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?

  • An Engineering Degree or Technology Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing or related program preferred
  • 5 + years’ experience in the Automation industry as an Engineer, Technologist and/or project manager, technically delivering on projects
  • 3 to 5 years experience with General Motors manufacturing control systems design, build, and start-up
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in PLC logic and programming (Preferably Allen Bradly Studio 5000, TIA Portal, Siemens is a plus with the desire to learn more
  • A drive to learn and expand skills and responsibilities is a must
  • Must have knowledge and experience using AutoCad or E-Plan to design controls and electrical hardware specific to customer project requirements
  • Standard industrial panel designs & components experience
  • Power distribution wiring experience
  • Human/machine interface design
  • Hands-on experience in automation control design, and project execution within GM with strong knowledge of GM Common controls Hardware and Software
  • Provide control system hardware and software designs including programmable logic devices, power distribution, I/O networks, human-machine interfaces, and cost estimating tools while following GM common controls hardware and software specifications
  • Prior Work Experience in tooling Systems with knowledge of Common Controls Hardware and Common Controls Software Standards
  • Good Knowledge of GM Common Controls Architecture; GCCS, GCCH is a plus. Green-Lock recommended
  • Thorough knowledge of the GM Mfg. processes, mainly in GA & Body shops, quality systems
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills
  • Working Knowledge of plant floor systems including Error Proofing, Production Monitoring and Control, Andon Systems, Upload/Download, and Compare, Throughput and Material Call
  • Ability to travel to OEM and plant sites, up to 20% within the US
  • Duration of Travel – 2-3 weeks at any given time
  • An ability to work weekends during non-production times for our customers
