We're excited to be adding a Senior Data Engineer to our growing team! This is an engaging and challenging opportunity that plays an intricate role in shaping the development of our upcoming August and Yale products. We're looking for a social and collaborative self-starter who wants to live on the edge of technologies that bring software and hardware together, within the connected home.

This position will report directly to the Manager of DevOps Engineering. We're seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support our efforts in building world-class mobile solutions for our direct-to-consumer products, as well as our business partners. As part of the team, you'll initially help define the data and tools required to continuously provide business intelligence insights based on inbound data. The team's goal is to support the business development and product teams with business intelligence, as well as ensuring the uptime and quality of the data pipeline.

This is a remote position.

WHAT YOUR DAY LOOKS LIKE

• Work cross-functionally to help describe the insights that the business wants
• Collaborate with the engineering team to understand the currently available data and help chart a path for ingesting data that may provide additional insights
• Hands-on building of dashboards/1-time queries using tools like Looker, Kibana, etc.
• Help materialize new insights based on existing and new data sources (a small subset of current integrations include Google Home, Alexa, and Airbnb)

WHAT BRINGS SUCCESS TO THIS ROLE

• Expertise in database technologies and working with large sets of data
• Ability to brainstorm reporting solutions to recommend appropriate analytics and KPIs to business teams
• A focus on small increments of progress, fast feedback loops, and testing for any new development efforts
• Strong skills related to communication, troubleshooting, and developing analytic solutions
• Enthusiasm for collaboration with cross-functional team members (mobile, embedded development, and QA) in some cases across multiple geographies
• Obsessive about security, privacy, quality, and performance
• An inquisitive mind with an eagerness to learn and share

REQUIREMENTS

• 3-5 years professional software engineering experience
• Fluency in at least one query language and any high-level programming language
• Deep understanding of paradigms for modern data pipelines with an understanding of historical paradigms
• Ability to deliver real-time insights based on a broad set of data
• Strong familiarity with git or similar tools
• Experience building infrastructure for optimally bringing together rationalizing/conceptualizing data from a wide variety of data sources
• Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with high-traffic data inputs
• Experience creating information radiators for production systems deployed in the cloud
• Bonus - Experience with AWS and Snowflake
• Bonus - Experience with CI/CD systems
• Bonus - Knowledge of LookML best practices for coding

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

We strive to offer a competitive compensation package that aligns with market rates for companies similar in size and industry. Salary is just one component of our total rewards package, including benefits, bonuses, professional development, and additional perks.

Actual salaries offered will vary and may be below or above the ranges listed based on various factors including but not limited to the scope of the role, location, experience, skill set, and educational background. We expect most candidates offered positions at Smart Residential US to fall well within the range based on these factors while also having balanced internal equity relative to other Smart Residential US employees.

Salary Range: $135,000 - $180,000
