Job Summary
The Senior Data Engineer - ML is responsible for delivering on the promise of creating next generation data architecture that spans our diverse insurance businesses. This includes design and engineering of data pipelines, infrastructure, automation, and AI/ML based models to support various functions including rating, underwriting, pricing, analytics, and data science. As a member of the digital engineering team, you will be responsible for both selecting and building technology to unlock the value stored in our vast array of data sources used to make key decisions and drive profitability across our many programs. You’ll also build intelligence that powers a wide variety of user experiences that engage our brokers, agents, underwriters, and all other personas we represent and support. Staying ahead of technological innovation is just one aspect of the job. As a part of a strong team of designers and engineers whose passion, pace and ideas drive the growth of our business.
What You’ll Do:
Interact with product owners, data scientists, application engineers, infrastructure engineers and business leads to identify high value use cases and build architectures to better expose data and make decisions- Select and assemble tools to create uniform and fully automated data pipelines that simplify the process of ingesting and processing data from a wide variety of both structured and unstructured data sources
- Leverage a variety of scripting and compiled languages to develop data transformation and decisioning logic
- Determine tools, algorithms, and approaches to create models, measure them and determine model drift
- Select tools and create architectures to enable real-time data streaming and decisioning solutions
- Build automated tools for scientists to deploy and work with various data models
- Help maintain and iteratively improve production data systems
- Participate in code and design reviews
- Work across functions and teams to determine data needs and opportunities
- Participate in the creation and execution of our data roadmaps
What You’ll Need:
Degree in Computer Science (or commensurate experience in data structures/algorithms/distributed systems)- Polyglot skillset with 5 years’ experience as a data engineer
- Experience with Python, C/C++, Java, Go, or similar languages
- Experience with some (or all) of AWS, Kafka, Airflow, Python, K8, GoLang or other tools to construct scaled data pipelines
- Experience with real time data streaming architectures
- Must have worked with large volumes of data in the past and have experience scaling ingestion
Bonus Points if you Have:
Familiarity with Docker and/or Kubernetes based development and orchestration- Contributed to the open-source community (GitHub, Stack Overflow, blogging)
- Prior experience with the Big Data ecosystem like Spark and Hadoop
- Prior experience with services like AWS Batch, EMR, Glue, and SageMaker
- Prior experience in the insurance, financial services, or related field
