The Senior Energy Trading Analyst, Retail will have a key role in supporting the retail energy functions within the business. The candidate will be contributing to and be responsible for certain activities related to retail energy; data acquisition, customer enrollment, transaction deal capture, product set-up, customer billing set-up and verification, invoicing and payment verification and business level operating procedures. The Energy Trading Analyst will also be responsible for portfolio analysis and various other analysis, evaluations, and reporting. The candidate will provide additional support across the regions to ensure common implementation of processes, procedures, systems, and tools such that the business can achieve its financial results. This role reports to the Regional Vice President, New York & West Regions, and is located in the New York Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or track retail energy business activities related to EDI; enrollments, energy usage, invoicing, and payments as well as other required retail business activities and reporting
  • Collect, review and coordinate with Sr. Director, Origination and Sr. Quantitative Analyst retail energy customers interval and profile data for pricing and analysis. Provide pricing assistance as needed by the region
  • Coordinate with Sr. Director, Origination and Director, Trading transaction deal capture and product set-up activities with internal teams and external vendors
  • In coordination with the regional team, work across the business to integrate business processes and/or transactional processes to ensure accurate, timely capture of data and integration of data across all required business functions
  • Develop and implement business operating procedures across retail business activities
  • Lead or participate in projects that will achieve process efficiency gains, new tool development and implementation, new system implementation or other projects which enhance business performance
  • Support data aggregation efforts, analysis and strategies each morning to implement approved trading activities across the portfolio
  • Coordinate physical power, ancillary services, capacity, physical transmission with control areas or trading counterparts, as necessary
  • Assist with the validation of forward pricing, basis, and volatility curves
  • Validate key market assumptions with market data. Research and quantify deviations between forecast, budget and actual results
  • Responds to internal requests from other functions for data and analysis
  • Under the direction of the Senior Director, Trading, Senior Director, Origination and Traders, perform analysis, pricing evaluations and portfolio optimization strategy development

Required Experience

  • Bachelor`s degree in engineering, economics, business, finance, information technology, or other relevant discipline
  • At least three (3) years of experience as an Analyst in a corporate energy industry environment or at least two (2) years of direct Analyst experience in retail energy within an energy company
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; knowledge of an ETRM system is an asset
  • Knowledge of Access, SQL, Python, R and/or other software to allow for better and more efficient analysis of data and reporting
  • Knowledge of retail energy markets; EDI processes, customer load retrieval and analytics related to retail energy operations
  • Knowledge of retail energy pricing; processes related to pricing inputs, product structures and use of pricing tools
  • Knowledge of ISO market and utility retail energy rules
  • Knowledge of internal and external scheduling systems such as OASIS and OATI
  • Working knowledge of current and pending rules and issues within the ISO, utility and administered markets
  • Knowledge of markets, market pricing and market analysis/valuations
  • English is essential; working knowledge of French is an asset
