Department Overview

The Compliance department oversees and coordinates compliance with regulatory requirements and PG&E’s internal standards for gas operations. The department:

Manages the relationship with the CPUC’s Safety and Enforcement Division, providing leadership, coordination, guidance and follow-through for regulatory compliance inspections and regulatory commitments;
Supports incident response through coordination with CPUC for on scene investigation and follow up during investigations or incident reporting.
Coordinates, supports and leads CPUC inspections across the PG&E system as a Regulatory Compliance team member;
Working across gas operations; Manages and coordinates compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, including PHMSA, CPUC and DOGGR
Works closely with field organizations to ensure understanding and adherence to compliance requirements; and
Assists the organization in preparing responses to regulatory advisory bulletins, and proposed regulations. Assists in the coordination of implementation of new regulations.
Assists or prepares reports for submittal to PHMSA and CPUC for incidents, quarterly and annual reporting.

Position Summary

The Senior Gas Engineer, Regulatory Compliance & Risk Analysis, reports directly to the Regulatory Compliance Manager and works directly with field and functional employees throughout PG&E’s geographic areas. Key responsibilities include organizing and leading the CPUC/PHMSA inspection process for service area locations; understanding and resolving compliance issues identified during inspections, coaching employees during inspections as necessary, ensuring inspection activities are properly documented and electronically managed for future access, preparing audit inspection letter responses, assist in the implementation of new regulations, assist in the identification and resolution of apparent causes of noncompliance. Respond to inquiries by the CPUC/SED including Notices of Potential Violations.

Travel: This position may require up to 60% travel across the service territory to support scheduled inspections or support incident response.

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $128,000
Bay Area Maximum: $218,000
&/OR​
California Minimum: $122,000
California Maximum: $207,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Qualifications-

Minimum:
BS Engineering
Five (5) years of relevant experience
May be required to have a valid California driver's license on day one of employment.

Desired: PMP Certification or PMP candidate 1 year of experience supporting inspections and reporting processes for PHMSA and CPUC regulatory codes. 1 year of CPUC / PHMSA incident reporting experience Experience with CPUC Self-Report process Ability to communicate complex information concisely, both verbally and in writing Strong understanding of gas operations and associated Guidance Documents Strong experience in compliance related work and notifications processes such as SRCR, GQI Reports, encroachments, uprates and construction notifications Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, and Outlook Knowledge of SAP and GIS

Responsibilities
Understand the requirements and work processes associated with compliance activities and any new or emerging compliance requirements. Works with Superintendents, Managers, Supervisors and field employees throughout Gas Operations to direct the coordination of compliance activities, reporting requirements, and commitments. Performs moderate to complex engineering work and projects Expands knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline, developing breadth or further develops expertise and specialization on one area. Provides engineering and technical solutions by using existing tools, methods, approaches and tactics in new ways or by modifying and improving them. Evaluates methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts for engineering work and projects assigned Presents engineering research, findings solutions and recommendations to leadership Works independently under limited direction and guidance May provide training, guidance, instruction and coaching to other Engineers
