Job Summary

Responsible for driving and implementing key specialty pharmacy operation initiatives for the enterprise inclusive of community based specialty, specialty at retail and in coordination with Alliance Rx. Serves as a specialty subject matter expert and main specialty operations point of contact for all supporting business units and field teams for all specialty related initiatives throughout the organization. Must be able to communicate to leaders throughout the enterprise to ensure thorough understanding of projects and alignment of any necessary business units. Is responsible for oversight of our compounding strategy for the company in regards to USP800 and USP795. The leader is responsible for all of the business continuity responses to ensure specialty operations are not impacted or can return to normal as soon as possible.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leading the day to day specialty pharmacy operation business across Walgreens including retail and community based specialty.
  • Responsible for protecting the specialty patient and team member experience with different initiatives/projects.
  • Collaborate with other business partners to ensure that all projects are operationally sound and meet the needs of the business. Ensure that there is a feedback loop from the field to the business partner, and that it is communicated throughout the organization.
  • Report out to leadership on key pharmacy initiatives and corresponding metrics to ensure they understand the health of the business, key initiatives, and feedback from the field.
  • Main point of contact for any specialty business continuity initiatives to ensure operations are minimally impacted and specialty patients maintain access to critical therapies leveraging all specialty enterprise assets.
  • Oversee Compounding Strategy for Walgreens as it pertains to USP 800 and USP 795 guidelines to training and communication to the field. Responsible for oversight and communication to the field and leadership on any prospective guideline changes/interpretations.
  • Represent Walgreens with national pharmacy organizations and at external conferences and meetings.
  • Help manage key strategic vendor relationships for specialty pharmacy operations and acts as SME to the organization for specialty pharmacy operations with internal business partners and external clients.
  • Leads ad hoc projects to ensure business needs are met for the organization as necessary.
  • Responsible for specialty training development to support specialty at retail, community based specialty and disease state specialized stores. Serves as the point of contact with learning and development. Training includes but not limited to: disease state networks, Feel More Like You, specialty team member onboarding, specialty at retail resolution center and patient care portal process, clinical platform and clinical management workflow.
  • Responsible for all specialty operations communications to support field leadership and stores. Serves as point of contact with communications and labor teams for proper approvals, phasing and deployment.
  • Serves as specialty operations representative in development of SOPs, policies and procedures for the enterprise while working with legal and compliance to develop and approve content. Includes but not limited to: bedside deliver, physician administered, delivery and shipping, specialty depot for Walgreens and Alliance Rx.
  • Serves as specialty operations point of contact for the organization and works cross functionally with business units on projects to ensure alignment with our enterprise specialty strategy.
  • Precept pharmacy students and/or summer pharmacy interns.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and at least 4 years of experience in retail or healthcare operations
  • Required licensure as a Registered Pharmacist as granted by an appropriate state licensing authority OR willingness to obtain license in state of residence within 90 days.
  • Experience implementing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget.
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
  • Experience using business analytical skills including facilitating requirements sessions and documenting activity workflows and business requirements.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels within an organization.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 25 % of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
