The Staff Engineer, Project – Operations Readiness, reports to the Manager, Operations Planning. This position is responsible for providing support to Operations with a current primary focus of responsibilities related to the development and execution of Operations Readiness (OR) plans and strategies on the Corpus Christi LNG (CCL) Stage 3 Expansion. Support activities include project management, project controls, strategic planning, risk management, performance management, governance, budgeting and reporting in the delivery of OR objectives and attainment of key performance targets.

This position offers the ability to positively impact multiple departments of Cheniere’s operating asset, and collaborates with all levels of the company, from individual contributors to Executive Management.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Responsible to coordinate the development, review, and execution of Operations Readiness (OR) Plans for new operating assets.
  • Facilitate recurring meetings and maintain project documentation, to support identifying status, challenges, and opportunities within the delivery of OR activities.
  • Responsible to maintain OR schedule(s) and provide progress updates on OR activities and deliverables.
  • Support development, review, and alignment of Operations Staffing Plans related to new operating assets.
  • Coordinate planning activities with the CCL Site Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure that plans are developed and executed.
  • Responsible to interface with various Operations departments and SLT, as needed to support achieving OR plan.
  • Facilitate the development and tracking of strategic KPIs and use of analytical tools to measure performance and progress on critical activities.
  • Assist in the development, review, and finalization of the OPEX and CAPEX Budgets for new operating assets.
  • Coordinates with operations accounting for monthly budget and status reviews, identifying spend variances.
  • Support in providing assurance and governance for various Operations and project management functions, as it related to new operating assets, under Cheniere’s Integrated Management System (CIMS).
  • Work with technical teams to assist with development of simulations and other technical tools.
  • Support providing Operations strategic planning inputs to support pre-FID decision making on operating asset expansion opportunities.
  • Support document control processes and coordination of project request for information (RFI) and change orders driven by Operations.
  • Interface with Finance, Treasury, Regulatory/Compliance, Engineering & Construction, and other stakeholders as deemed necessary to ensure Operations guidance and information is available and aligned with the company values and interests.
  • Support HR and other administrative departments to assist with recruitment, training, and development plans.
  • Conduct a wide variety of ad hoc analyses to support senior management updates and decision making.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge:

The Senior or Staff Engineer, Project – Operations Readiness will have a broad understanding of hydrocarbon plant operations (such as operations within LNG, refining, petrochemical, or similar industry) as well as a detailed working knowledge of project engineering/management, project controls and Operations Readiness (OR) philosophies and activities.

Skills:

  • Able to work with a culturally diverse group of technical individuals whose skills cover the range required to engineer, operate, and maintain the LNG terminal and Liquefaction production facilities.
  • Possess the personality and ability to relate to and to establish a mutually respectful relationship with 1) management, 2) peers and 3) the various facility level workers (Plant Manager, plant supervision and plant workers) whom are all responsible for ensuring proper operations.
  • Computer knowledge including Primavera (or other project management tools), and highly efficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and appropriate business sense at higher levels within the organization and with customers, and other third parties.
  • Must have the ability to proactively work with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education, Training and Certifications :

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or other engineering function. Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus.

Experience :

Senior Engineer, Project: Ten plus (5+) years of experience in an operational readiness, operations project engineering, or operations business support role within natural gas, refining or petrochemical industry. LNG experience is preferred.

Staff Engineer, Project: Ten plus (10+) years of experience in an operational readiness, operations project engineering, or operations business support role within natural gas, refining or petrochemical industry. LNG experience is preferred.

DIRECT REPORTS

Up to two supporting personnel (contract).

FREEDOM TO ACT

The Staff Engineer, Project – Operations Readiness requires minimal supervision and possesses the ability to function in a highly dynamic environment.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • The job is performed in an industrial plant environment.
  • Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.
  • Limited domestic travel required as business conditions dictate.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training as directed (e.g., basic first aid, CPR, LNG firefighting, etc.)
  • Must maintain or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
