Summary:

Hollister’s Continence Care Research & Development division is looking to recruit an individual to grow and develop our expertise of the impact of medical devices on cell and tissue health. This position will be a member of the Technology Development team within global Continence Care Research & Development and it will be a visible, cross-functional role requiring solid interpersonal and communication skills as well as a desire to coach and mentor. The ideal candidate would have a PhD in biomedical science with 5 - 8 years of professional experience emphasizing the interaction between devices and cell and tissue health. An understanding of urethral physiology are major pluses. Technically, this position will require a mix of skills to provide tactical support and drive long-term scientific strategy for Hollister’s cell health initiatives.
Hollister’s Research & Development efforts provide a wealth of opportunities for personal, scientific and career development. From a tactical perspective, the individual will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise on new product development teams, will contribute to routine R&D testing needs, developing novel test methods and fixtures used to assess product performance and supporting lifecycle management needs of the commercial portfolio. These roles require an individual with cross-functional experience as success of these efforts requires close collaboration with colleagues across the organization including front-end innovation, engineering, operations, project management and quality.

The Sr. Scientist will also oversee and conduct investigative projects within Technology Development reporting key findings and significance to senior R&D leadership. Strategically, the individual will drive the long-term strategy both internally and with external key opinion leaders to develop new products and enhance the urethral health benefits of our existing and next generation portfolio. The successful candidate will also help lead and work with external co-partnerships to help develop better products that improve urethral health. The Sr. Scientist role has the ability to design, execute and interpret experiments and therefore works with minimal technical supervision in this respect. Hollister is truly a people-oriented company therefore this individual will be expected to coach and mentor junior staff in order to nurture the long-term, technical continuity of the Technology Development team and R&D as a whole. Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands-on support for standard testing needs, novel test method and test fixture development, and process improvements that support our quality and manufacturing programs.
  • Design, execute and interpret results from stand-alone experiments
  • Author technical documents required to summarize findings and interpret their relevance.
  • Actively participate on cross-functional teams
  • Validates plans within the team and acts on suggestions of improvement
  • Supports the completion of team deliverables
  • May assume project management roles coordinating the activities of various groups around the company such as clinical, regulatory, and legal
  • Develop relationships, liaise and work with external partnerships and vendors
  • Support and oversee chartered technical projects; review and communicate results with customers
  • Develop scientific strategies and experimental approaches for programs as they apply to new material and technology development, as well as change control management of the existing ostomy portfolio.
  • Develops realistic action steps, timetables, and resource estimates for technical projects
  • Communicate findings from research endeavors to key stakeholders throughout the organization (R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, etc.).
  • May support technical management in establishing goals and strategies.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

Requirements:
  • The ideal candidate would have a PhD in biomedical science with 5 - 8 years of professional experience emphasizing the interaction between devices and cell and tissue health.
  • Educational background in biomedical science or relevant biological discipline.
  • Broad biomedical and cell biology and with laboratory-based testing experience.
  • Experience in applied problem solving.
  • Experience developing new products and technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Good Documentation Practices and operating under a formal Quality system (test methods, specifications, etc.).
  • The ability to work in a laboratory setting including the abilities to devise a research strategy and accompanying experimental plan, conduct testing, generate data, and summarize findings into technical documents.
  • Effectively summarize and communicate research findings in both written and verbal forms to stakeholders.
  • The ability to problem-solve.
  • The ability to travel, as needed, to other research and / or manufacturing facilities within Hollister as well as vendor locations.
  • Use of common Microsoft-based applications (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint).
