  • provide research and development services for clinical research protocols at NRSCSD to improve patient care quality, support graduate medical education, foster medical staff development, discover and establish new technologies, drugs, and devices for the delivery of world class health services.
  • will have primary responsibility for development, coordination and implementation of clinical research protocols in the areas of visual performance, optical aberrations, quality of vision, operational visual assessments, visual simulation, and the outcomes of refractive surgery, to include but not limited to photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), laser in-situ keratomeliusis (LASIK), and small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE).
  • coordinate presentations of the outcomes at scientific meetings and prepare reports equal to the quality expected for peer-reviewed, scientific journals. The contractor will complete integration of the combat-driving simulator (a simulator used to test patient’s ability to drive Humvee before and after surgical intervention) conducted at NRSC at NTC and design validation, leading to its implementation into new research protocols at NRSCSD.
  • provide the services for transforming fleet requirements into clinical research protocols to answer complex questions in the areas of visual performance; its relationship with lower and higher order optical aberrations; correlations between standard-of-care clinical tests and visual performance; consequences of refractive surgery outcomes in high risk occupations (e.g., test pilots, special forces, astronauts, and deep sea divers); long-term effects of refractive surgery and visual simulation.
  • Transform operational requirements into clinical research protocols to answer fleet needs as they relate to visual performance testing, operational visual assessments, optical aberrations, quality of vision, and the outcomes of refractive surgery.
  • Design and perform acceptance evaluations of new NRSCSD research equipment such as the Combat Driving Simulator (a simulator used to test patient’s ability to drive Humvee before and after surgical intervention), as well as update and modify existing clinical devices such as the Aircraft Carrier Landing Simulator (ACLS) and the Complete Ophthalmic Analysis System (COAS) HD/VR, and any follow-on clinical research simulation devices.
  • Interface weekly in person with a team of doctors, technicians, and clinical researchers at the primary (Naval Health Branch Clinic NTC, NMCSD) to identify workload priorities and timelines, maximize efficiency of ongoing clinical research projects, and ensure that clinical trials comply with study and regulatory policies.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $50,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
