Senior Structural Technician/Designer

Purpose

  • Perform structural design work from conceptual design through to detailed design of greenfield and brownfield projects. Some mechanical exposure and experience would be desired as well.

Education

  • A diploma in Engineering design and drafting or equivalent

Technical and Industry Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in the drawing design field.
  • Experience within the Consulting Engineering Industry (preferably work at a firm)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is required. Working, or better, knowledge of Revit and Inventor is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Field experience using a terrestrial laser scanner equipment is a plus.
  • Developed written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with other designers and engineers to achieve optimal drawing product.
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with an aptitude for problem solving and the ability to work independently or as a member of a team. You must be capable of working with a team within a major project.

Salary

  • Negotiable and commensurate with applicable experience

Responsibilities

The following are desired job skills and responsibilities:

  • Prepare structural/mechanical design 2D drawings and 3D models based on engineering information, site data and customer requirements for:

- Structural general arrangement
- Mechanical system layouts
- Building construction materials
- General connection types used in construction
- Brace and moment frame design
- Structural pipe supports, pipe racks, platforms, buildings and equipment support
- Concrete foundations

  • Prepare structural Material Take-offs.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems and design principles and practices (utility/process piping, ductwork, mechanical equipment, etc.) would be a plus.
  • Provide technical support to the project team.
  • Development of construction document packages based on the project requirements and application.
  • Coordinate with and gather information from other disciplines, with knowledge of the impact of other disciplines design data on structural design.
  • Coordinate with the structural engineering team.
  • Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment to establish and document accurate field conditions. This would include climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces.
  • Other responsibilities include preparing as-built drawings, design and o detailing new components from previous designs.
