JOB TITLE: Service Center Management Trainee

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations in conjunction with Service Center Manager oversight

OVERVIEW OF ROLE: Responsible for becoming proficient in all aspects of Service Center management in order to be able to fill temporary vacancies and/or fulfill promotional opportunities throughout the system with regard to any aspect of Service Center operation or administration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train/learn to become proficient in all aspects of service center operation, including all shifts of the operation and administrative functions.
  • Travel throughout the system as needed within the organization in order to complete operational and administrative training to complete training.
  • Temporarily fill-in throughout the system as needed for any aspect of Service Center management or administration.
  • At completion of training program, relocate as needed to fulfill promotional opportunities within the organization.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree or related work experience equivalent
  • Willingness to accept responsibility.
  • Willingness to travel throughout system.
  • Must be self-starter and be able to work without supervision.
  • Must be able to adjust to stressful situations
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player, team builder and team leader.
  • Basic computer knowledge with willingness to learn more.
  • Willingness to relocate in the Ward service center footprint.
  • Must have basic understanding of customer service and desire to support Ward’s quest to always service the customer first.
  • Must be physically able to walk the dock and in trailers on surfaces that may be slippery and wet at times, be able to move freight with or without aid of freight handling equipment, be able to bend, twist, climb and move about in small spaces, and able to lift and reach objects.
  • Must possess strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to foster open, honest two-way communication both internally and externally.
  • Must be organized and able to work with PC.
  • Must be able to work hours as required and travel if necessary.
  • Must be prepared to assume shift operations with little or some advance notice.
  • Must be able to perform all job duties of a supervisor including AS400 (computer) functions as well as deal with other General Office departments as required.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • 12 to 18 month program depending upon progress
  • Quarterly performance review
